That said, I'm not a fan of the $1.5T defense budget, let the NATO countries catch up with us, our $39T Debt needs to be paid down, not added to.

The Pentagon is absolutely the world`s largest welfare recipient and it didn`t start with Kegseth. To question their spending in the 50s would brand you as a communist. Question it today and you`ll be called a terrorist sympathizer and enabler. We`re the suckers of the world. We spend 3 X what China spends.
So govt is welfare? The DoD is govt money going to govt. so are all taxes welfare? Or are you changing the definition of welfare?

The largest spending agency is actually DHHS, with 2.6 trillion in 2025 and 40 percent of the entire spending…Medicare and Medicaid making up 1.5 trillion alone

I don’t disagree I’m sure retirement will be a lot of fun. But that doesn’t mean I am not enjoying life now, and I highly recommend you figure out how to

I’m sorry life is so miserable for you.

As I mentioned SS and medicine and Medicaid are the largest drivers of debt, they need massive reform and are not substainable currently

I suggest you also pay into a private retirement fund, IRA or 401k because SS won’t be enough for you alone

Working people pay into ALL govt programs
We are both retired. My wife has a great pension. I have a 401 and 403 I paid into for many years. We've been retired for well over 25 years now. Beats the heck out of working I can tell you that.

That’s great for yoj all! That would put you in the very small percentage of Americans

Good for you

I have to give a shout out to the pension system. After 35 years of teaching my wife has benefitted enormously from it.

I say we use all the waste and fraud in Medicare and Medicaid for the defense budget.

More of a 'wish-list' than any sort of law.

But it does show where his head is at..and clearly, any increase in war spending must be matched by a decrease in spending elsewhere.
Historically, that comes at the expense of social programs--and since Trump knows that most of those who use such programs are never going to vote for him anyway, it's an easy target.

President Donald Trump has proposed boosting defense spending to $1.5 trillion in his 2027 budget released Friday, the largest such request in decades, reflecting his emphasis on U.S. military investments over domestic programs.

The sizable increase for the Pentagon, some 44%, had been telegraphed by the Republican president even before the the U.S.-led war against Iran. The president’s plan would also reduce spending on non-defense programs by 10%.

“President Trump promised to reinvest in America’s national security infrastructure, to make sure our nation is safe in a dangerous world,” wrote Budget Director Russell Vought.

The president’s annual budget is considered a reflection of the administration’s values and does not carry the force of law. The massive document typically highlights an administration’s priorities, but Congress, which handles federal spending issues, is free to reject it and often does.
Trump sure loves government spending.

Not this one. It's one of the best in the nation. Keep the governor out of it he has NO business even looking at it.
