The real problem with Ukraine is that the Soviet-drawn borders included areas - Donbas and Crimea- that were predominantly Russian and never really felt like they were part of Ukraine.

Putin was completely in the wrong for invading, but Zelenskyy was equally in the wrong for trying to crush the LPR and DPR militarily instead of following the peace process laid out in the Second Minsk Accord.

Like it or not, at some point, everyone is going to have to sit down and say, "Yes, this is the border we can live with."
