Where does the “20 percent” claim even come from? First, there is a big difference between capacity and supply. Uranium One’s Wyoming facilities could theoretically process 20 percent of uranium produced domestically in the United States, but production capacity does not equal physical supply, and those facilities have never produced anywhere near that quantity.2 Moreover, no uranium was transferred to Russia from the United States. The United States already imports the overwhelming majority of uranium it uses from countries like Kazakhstan, Canada, and Russia.

Actually, that makes a lot of sense.

The largest cohort of veterans that were ever served by the VA were the WW2 guys. There were originally more than 16 million, the largest group of veterans the nation has ever produced.

But now, over the past few decades, the number has been dramatically shrinking. The need for VA workers to serve them is so much less, firings are just common sense.

The Veterans Administration has more people than the US Army. So much so that if you put both of them on a field of battle, the VA would have a numbers advantage.

The dead weight in the VA is much larger than 83k people. The cuts need to go deeper.

You're correct. The attrition rate and RIF at the VA comes as no surprise. The number of WWII, Korean and Vietnam Wars are fast dwindling.
In all of the above cases those were mostly all conscripted personnel.
Our modern volunteer military is much smaller than ever before.
