We got all the information needed for the CDC to create tests on Jan 5th just like the rest of world when China released the genome for the virus. Other nations created working tests for the virus in less than 60 days. I don't know what the CDC did with the information they got but one thing is for sure, they did not produce working tests when the virus could have been controlled in February and March. However, it seems very likely that the president did not put any pressure on CDC to develop the tests because he was on his soap box proclaiming to the world that the virus was just the flu, a democrat hoax.

They disseminate information from member states which in China means information approved by or released by the government. If the WHO did otherwise, China would kick them out in a heartbeat. The WHO is not an intelligence gathering organization which means they do not disseminate leaks, rumors, and speculations.

Information sharing is only a small part of what the WHO does. Most of their efforts are directed at eradication of diseases in 3rd world countries. Thru their efforts hundreds of millions of people are being vaccinated. Polio is being wiped out. Their workers are on front lines in the fight against Eboa. Of course to Donald Trump and his follows they see improved world health as worthless.

We got all the information needed for the CDC to create tests on Jan 5th just like the rest of world when China released the genome for the virus. Other nations created working tests for the virus in less than 60 days. I don't know what the CDC did with the information they got but one thing is for sure, they did not produce working tests when the virus could have been controlled in February and March.

China first offical release of the virus was on Dec 31. About Dec 15th the Wuhan Virology Institute reported increasing cases of pneumonia in Wuhan. There would not have been a genome available for the coronavirus because they believed they were dealing with a viral pneumonia thus there would be no tests for it at that time. I don't recall the date but there was a leak of information out of the Wuhan Virology Institute that scientists suspected that they were dealing with a mutated strand of coronaviurs that was being spread by the live market. Apparently, in last 2 week of December they were able to isolate the virus and create a genome of it in early January but they could not confirm human to human transmission at that time, probably because they were not doing contact tracing. On January 9th, China officially stated that the outbreak is caused by a novel coronavirus. The genome which had the information needed for other countries to create tests for the virus was offical released a few days latter.

China had their first outbreak in late November, which we heard about in early December - via WHO. It was vague - some sort of virus in China, could be the next big flu, that type of thing. By the end of December we knew it was getting bad over there, and in early January, they released the virus DNA to labs around the world to help us prepare.

Wuhan is located at the edge of a pristine rain forest, so a lot of weird jungle creatures end up in the market there. That's also why there is a virus research lab there. SARS came out of this area. As humans continue to encroach on these unexplored and uninhabited areas of the planet, we're going to continue to be exposed to these novel viruses and further pandemics are not only possible, but likely.

Just like the USA, China probably thought it was just a flu and they could shut it down quickly. When that didn't happen, they sent the DNA out to the world in enough time that most of us were able to prepare

Between January 5th and March 13th, when Trump formed the task force to deal with this virus, he did NOTHING to stop it from coming or to prepare for it's arrival. Trump pretended it would all disappear. He's still saying that.
