Trump IGNORED warnings from the WHO in January. He paid enough attention to tell American companies to sell of their PPE to China and didn't keep any for the US hospitals.

Then he refused the WHO test and 6 months later, the USA doesn't have cheap, quick, testing for all. Texas is running out of tests, reagents, and it takes a week to get results. Trump refused the WHO tests so that American labs could create their own testing system and profit from it. The testing decisions have all been made with maximum profits for American medical companies - not quick, safe, cheap easily completed testing and tracking.

Trump "closed the border with China", and called 400,000 Americans in China to come home, but without any testing to ensure the people returning from China weren't bringing the virus with them. 400,000 people, came home and fanned out across the country.

But Trump did nothing about people coming in from Europe. The virus came into New York, and thanks to a regular subway rider, the virus spread throughout the city. With no tests, there was no way to know where or how many people were infected so it continued to spread, unabated.

The moment cases started slowing down in New York, Trump pushed re-opening of the entire country, before the virus was under control, and now there are more cases than ever Thousands and thousands of people have died because of these wrong headed decisions.

Now Trump is DEMANDING schools reopened. Dumb, and dumber.

The money the US puts into the WHO is an investment in world health. If you're so stupid to believe that world heath has no major impact on the US, then you should stop reading now because you will not believe a word of what follows. 75% of all pandemics originate in 3rd world countries which is the WHO target for delivery of healthcare. In today's world, diseases spread around world in hours not days or weeks. A new disease can be in Kenya one day and in Miami the next. It boils down to would you rather your dollars go to fighting an epidemic in the Ethiopia or when it reaches Atlanta. The WHO is the primary force in fighting Ebola in Africa which would be far worst in the US than Covid 19.

It is irresponsible and dangerous for the United States, the WHO’s largest donor to walk out. If Donald Trump believes the organization needs change, the place to do that is in the organization. The US will have no voice in making changes if it is not a member. Also, the WHO can refuse to share information with the CDC if they choose. Currently the WHO and CDC work hand in hand at preventing diseases from entering the US.

Often the primary problem for the person without insurance getting their care from the ER is time. You go to ER because of a terrible headache, loss of coordination, and double vision. The ER would most likely do a brain scan. If they see a mass which they suspect is brain cancer, they would either provide some treatment at your cost or make sure you were stable and send you home and start a process to get you coverage under Medicaid which can take days and sometimes weeks. If you don't qualify for Medicaid, then you will have to apply for insurance and believe me they will not welcome a person likely to have brain cancer but they have to cover you. The kicker is your coverage won't start for 30. During this time your cancer will be growing and each day you're treatment is delayed, your chances worsen. Even if you get insurance or Medicaid quickly, there is still the issue of whether your healthcare providers will accept your insurance or Medicaid. That can lead to even more delays. The moral of the story is have insurance before you get sick because it can kill you if you don't.

For many people without coverage, the biggest problem is what happens after they leave the hospital. If you had a serious illness or accident you can bet that there is going to be a lot of followup care which can be rehab, getting established with various doctors, outpatient surgery, chemo, lab tests, etc. And unlike the ER, these healthcare providers do not have have to take you as a patient if you don't have insurance. And even if you do they still don't have to take you. Generally, doctors do not want to take Medicaid patients because the reimbursements are very low and payments are slow plus there can be a lot re-submission and paperwork. Therefore they limit the number of Medicaid patients. Just because a doctor accepts Medicaid doesn't mean you will every get an appointment. I have a friend on Medicaid and she is in desperately in need of an Endocrinologist. After several days of calling doctors she finally got an appointment in a neighboring town 4 months out. When it comes to Mental Health, medicaid is a joke, and a bad one at that.
