Because of a SS background check requisite of having a hotel room during the week of the Presidential gala.
(There are plenty of other hotels available in DC, Maryland and surrounding area).

And before you whine....the Hotel can upcharge what they need to for the added security. Some hotels do and some do not....depending upon who owns the hotel and which political party they favor.

Not EVERY Hotel can or will host a Presidential gala....
WILLING AND ABLE are key facets....at least it used to be.

The advance team is all smiles and happy faces.....
The arrival team is sour and carry fully automatic weapons.

Question is, why did he turn up at the gala in the first place? He's in his 6th year as president and hasn't turned up in the previous five. And then he does turn up and this conveniently happens.

It pains me terribly to say this ... but the Secret Service, an organization/government agency I have immense respect for, needs a major shakeup.
Too many times, President Trump has come too close to being killed.
It's time for a major rethink on the Secret Service.
Perhaps it's time to look into hiring some ex-SEALS or Delta Force type operators.
