Looking back at this, I think it was handled as well as could be expected in a wide open public venue. Fortunately, it didn't end in any deaths or significant injuries---to democrats, like Kimmel's dissatisfaction.

What problems started after the switch from Treasury? (For instance, Presidents Reagan and Ford were shot while the Secret Sergice was under Treasury. So was President Kennedy assassinated before that changed.

The “true purpose” of the Secret Service has always been to protect the elected President, Vice President and their respective families as well as protecting some other visiting dignitaries.

Well first of all, you need to learn the US Secret Service is no longer part of the Treasury Department. They are Homeland Security.

NO, the purpose of the Secret Service, established in 1865, and perhaps telling, the last piece of legislation that Lincoln signed, actually signed on the day he was shot, formed the Secret Service to combat counterfeit currency. It was not until after the assassination of McKinley in 1901 that the Secret Service was tasked with protecting the president.

With that primary task of fighting counterfeit currency there was the responsibility to monitor the financial institutions within this country. The real reason behind legislation to return the SS to the Treasury Department is to return focus to their original purpose.

As to what problems? Tell me, how hard is to get a job with the Department of Homeland Security? Now, how about the Treasury Department? When you got SS agents chasing hookers in Columbia, well yeah, we got problems. That attempt on Trump in Pennsylvania, I mean the SS was absolutely asleep at the switch. Ladder by a building, shooter on a roof? That ever happen before SS became a part of Homeland Security? I can understand those that believe it was staged. The level of incompetence was through the damn roof.
