Toy I would like to have when a child.

They still make those, and their arms still get stuck together.
My kid was obsessed with Robots growing up, so instead of that set, I opted for the remote control motorized ones. Two versions.

With the growth of AI there will probably be robots making humans fight before long. I hope our arms don't get stuck together.

I was better at taking stuff apart. Old Radios, phones, tools, etc.

We took everything apart to see how it worked. Of course, back then, things were made to be disassembled with a screwdriver. Fortunately, I usually got it put back together. My first "good" or real stereo had an Ampex AM/FM 8-track receiver in a walnut case. Ampex actually had a consumer product division in the 60s. I used to slide the guts out of the wood cabinet so that it would sit exposed on the shelf and I could look at all of the parts.

It is long gone but I still have an Ampex portable AM/FM cassette player/recorder and a professional Ampex portable field reel to reel tape recorder which came in a big case complete with stereo speakers and tube amp so that you could playback recordings made right there on the spot.

Yeah, my dad started me with a set made in the 80's.

Most of it was junk compared to when he picked up his old set from Gma's.

I think the only plastic building set other than Legos that I used quite a bit was an old Girder and Panel set from the 70s.

Used with a Godzilla toy?

Hours of fun.

Girder panel looks cool

It was, very.

I even designed and created my own temporary construction wall for it. . . the type you see on the street when buildings are under-construction.

It was the first piece I used when I started a project. . .

I myself never understood why they quit selling this toy TBH.
