They should have the freedom, definitely. It would likely be a really dumb move, from a business perspective. But everyone, every business, should have the right to decide who they associate with.

It is a free speech issue, but not a government censorship issue. It is an issue of people being de-platformed over politics by people that control access to the internet, which has become the new public square.

Businesses have every right to associate (or not) with whomever they please. We’ve had this conversation on numerous occasions over the years and I’ll never be convinced that people have a right to social media account or to be hosted on my servers.

So power companies can shut off the power to Trump supporters and Trump? Phone cable and cell services can deny access to conservatives?

Internet access has been declared a "right" be some NGO's, and while I think that may be too far, things like hosts, and transmission services are more like utilities than anything else these days.

There is a difference between one baker not wanting to bake one specific cake, and said baker denying all products, or all bakers in an area denying the service. The same issues apply to this, and are far more crucial as you are talking about a person's access to express their opinion in an arena currently used to do just that.

These people still have access to the internet and I believe it should be classified as a utility in my opinion. Again, you don’t have a right to social media account. No one does.

That's why places like Parler and gab were created, and are now being suppressed. They said "create your own facebook" and now they are being told that their own facebook isn't welcome on backbone services like hosting.

And spare me hosting companies moral vapors attacks over all this, they host things like hamster midget duct tape fisting porn without saying boo.

If political thought and discussion are handled on social media platforms as a primary mean of discussion and dissemination of information, maybe they do have to be regulated as a commons.

I have all the faith in the world they’ll get their own servers up running and won’t have to do business with those entities anymore.

What if server companies refuse to sell to them? What if the broadband companies refuse to provide service?

This is opening up a big old rabbit hole.
