Top 10 Catastrophic Climate Predictions That Failed
It's been almost six years since the delinquent child activist Greta Thunberg promoted a so-called scientist's warning that "climate change will wipe out all of humanity unless we stop using fossil fuels" by 2023. The scientist in question, Harvard University professor James Anderson, also predicted "there will be no floating ice remaining" in the Arctic Ocean by 2022 absent a "Marshall Plan-style endeavor in which all of the world takes extreme measures to to transition off of fossil fuels completely within the next five years." That didn't happen, but climate activists are still warning that the Arctic could be ice-free at some point between 2035 and 2067.

Not surprisingly, there is a long history—dating back to the 1970s—of so-called climate scientists and government bureaucrats making catastrophic predictions about the environment that never materialized. Here are 10 of the most egregious examples. Enjoy!

1) In 1970, S. Dillon Ripley, a wildlife conservationist who served as secretary of the Smithsonian Institute, warned that 75 percent to 80 percent of species would be extinct by 1995. Wrong.

2) In 1970, Kenneth Watt, an ecologist and professor at the University of California, Davis, warned that "there won't be any more crude oil," that "none of our land will be usable" for agriculture, and the world would be 11 degrees colder by the year 2000. False."

When I was a kid, the Left tried to scare the people with claims of a Big Freeze. That never came, so they switched gears to Global Warming. Their predictions of calamity never happened, so they switched to "Climate Change" so they can blame any weather event on capitalism- but only Western Capitalism. They aren't protesting Chinese and Indian dirty
energy usage as if really were "killing the planet". If the Left really thought that fossil fuels were "killing the planet", they would
be demanding that we stopped China and India from dumping so much carbon into the atmosphere. The truth is that the Left's climate fear mongering is about control over industry- the means of production. Ring a bell? A progressive is like a watermelon- green on the outside and red to the core.

Climate predictions that failed

Conservatives who proclaimed climate change is just a myth and that we should do nothing about it.
DonGunCock means this Sidney Dillon Ripley II (Office of Strategic Services guy), (September 20, 1913 – March 12, 2001) was an American ornithologist and wildlife conservationist. He served as secretary of the Smithsonian Institution for 20 years, from 1964 to 1984, leading the institution through its period of greatest growth and expansion. For his leadership at the Smithsonian, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Ronald Reagan in 1985???

"In 1970, S. Dillon Ripley, then the Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, predicted that between 75 and 80 percent of all living animal species would become extinct by 1995 if no action was taken. This prediction, made in 1970, was based on the then-current rate of habitat destruction and species endangerment."

Ecologist Kenneth Watt declared, “By the year 2000 if present trends continue, we will be using up crude oil at such a rate…that there won't be any more crude oil. You'll drive up to the pump and say, `Fill 'er up, buddy,' and he'll say, `I am very sorry, there isn't any.

Climate Change is a cult.

China has farther to go than other countries
But they are also making the most effort to develop and use alternate technologies.
US is still….Drill Baby, Drill

China is only doing and saying what is profitable for China. If being somewhat green and saying things that appease the greenies make them more money, they will do and say them. In reality, they couldn’t care less about global warming. If being green is less profitable, they will not do it. Spoiled countries like the US have luxuries that afford them the time and energy to spend time and money worrying about global warming and touting the existential threat nonsense.

China suffers from some of the worst air pollution in the world. It is a serious health hazard.
They are leading the world in the development of EVs, Solar and wind

Will they use it or just sell it to stupid Western gov't's controlled by CC cultists?

Conservative strategy on Climate Change…

1. Deny Climate Change exists

2. Admit that the climate is changing but that man has nothing to do with it

3. Admit that man is affecting the climate but it is too late to do anything about it.
That's nice, except all three are mutually exclusive! It's more a less a listing of what could happen, in order. Most deny it exists, but if it does, man has nothing to do with it, and even if man did what are we going to do about it.

It has yet to be proven that man has anything to do with it, and what would we do if it is discovered that man is to blame?

That's the current status. Sounds like a sound and well thought out strategy to me.

An overwhelming majority of worldwide climate experts admit that man is impacting climate change. While they may argue the extent, there is no argument that we are impacting the climate.

Your whole premise is crap...

These are climate predictions, but climate change is happening at an already alarming rate... More scientists believe the earth is flat than earth is not warming up...

IS man doing this has some few still hanging on but the scientists in the oil industry say it is happening and man is causing it...

This is basic science, a vast majority of scientific nonsense is saying it is happening and man is doing it. There is always someone who will tell you the opposite, there is money in going against consensus... There are scientists that will sell you a book on how the world is flat...

This isn't about what we like to be true, but what in out best knowledge we know to be true... If you want, this is God testing us to see can we put behind our individual priorities enough to think of our collective priorities...

The OP is about ignoring the problem and believe it away, we call this the Tinkerbell solution in business.

Yes, in large part because they rely a lot of spoiled consumers, relative to much of the world, in the US and Western Europe that have bought into the climate change hysteria. They are taking advantage of that. Smart on their part. If those consumers all of a sudden had a food crisis, the existential threat talk of climate change would subside very quickly and China would slow down production.

Actually, US Conservatives are the only ones still denying climate change

It is probably true that the earths climate is also changing on its own. Scientists may argue which is doing what.

But what can’t be denied is that we have no control over what the earth is doing on its own.
But we CAN control what we are contributing to climate change.

Actually, US Conservatives are the only ones still denying climate change
Most aren't denying it entirely, but many believe it is cyclcal and that we can't do much to affect it anyway. It isn't an existential threat any more than Yellowstone is for the US.

Many people in Africa couldn't care less about it because they have more pressing, immediate concerns.
