Yup. The rich should pay for everything and the poor?? Well they pay for nothing but get as much as they can from the Govt. I.E. the taxpayers of America.

What an insult to the poor when the rich protest the amount of taxes they pay and the poor?? Well they pay for nothing.

It's only fair they pay 45%...I mean they want it to be fair, right?

45% seems about right... If you are wealth you are enjoying the business benefit of a stable economy, security and other government services more...

In 2007 the richest 1% of the American population owned 34.6% of the country's total wealth, and the next 19% owned 50.5%. Thus, the top 20% of Americans owned 85% of the country's wealth and the bottom 80% of the population owned 15%

And actually there share has increased since then, so if you thing it is wealth distribution is working think again...

Truth is the top 1% have the money to pay the taxes... The US has some of the 1st world's worst distribution of wealth.... This show trickle down is bullshit and there alternative is to incease the rich wealth by more...

You must be fools...

The reall insult is to imply that the poor can't make it on their own. How insulting to tell someone that they are incapable of supporting themselves.

"Distribution of wealth" Forcefully taking more and more from the successful so that one side can increase their voter base.

The real fools are those who think that the "rich", AKA the top 1%, will just stick around and keep footing an ever increasing bill. If you think this is not going to happen, look at what is already happening. Many of the 1% are leaving states with high taxes for states with lower taxes. They are even leaving entire countries.

How Much Do the Top 1 Percent Pay of All Taxes?
Soak the Rich, Lose the Rich

I'm curious if our resident Marxist posters think this is enough. Bill Maher even stated his dissatisfaction of the ever increasing tax burden on people like him a couple of years ago after California raised the top income tax rate again.

The tax man cometh, and California rich – getting richer – pay most

Since the top 1% has about 30 to 40 times the income of the median population of California, and that doesn't even count their capitol gains which is concentrated in the top 1% and mostly non existent for the median population, I'd say the top 1% is getting off pretty damn easy.

So, what would you say is "fair"? 50%, 75%, 90%? These have all been fact at one time and place or another. Do your research before you form an opinion on a topic. While it is true that the top EARNERS pay the brunt of the taxes, those with the most MONEY do not. Know who it is you are advocating higher taxes for, it could be your employer, who may have to choose between maintaining a profitable business and keeping you employed.

Even with a flat income tax the proportion of which the top 1% (or any percent) will increase over time. That has been a trend that has continued since the 80s. It makes you kind of wonder why people who say they are for the middle class don't simply eliminate the income tax for the middle-class. It won't happen because the people who say they care about the middle class are liars.
