The country was trashed when Trump left, just like the country was trashed when W left. Republicans have been trashing the country and leaving a mess for Democrats to clean up since Ronnie Raygun was in office with his "Star Wars" nonsense, spending the Russians into the ground.
The Republican tax code has created a leisure class of investors fewer than 30% of whom are working. They didn't make these companies profitable, they just bought of piece of the labour of others so they don't have to work. While 80% of the people receiving public assistance are working, 70% of the investor class live off their work.
I read a piece written by a leading economist in 2005, when growth was sluggish, and stagnant wages were being blamed. He wrote Republicans keep giving money to billionaires who don't need the money. Working people haven't had a raise in 25 years (2005 - today, it's 40 years). They have a lot of pent up demand but the buying power of their income keeps declining. The fastest way to kick start growth in the economy, would be to give every poor person in the country $10,000. They spend every dollar they get. That spending will spur growth.
That's what Joe Biden did with the American Rescue Plan and the Child Tax Benefit. He gave every poor family in America $10,000. The economy took off like a rocket. Just like the economist said. They paid off their debts and went shopping.
