U.S. frustration simmers over Belgium's struggle with militant threat
Belgium was once a great colonial power, with colonies in Africa, but now it's just another tiny European country which has gone complacent and soft while other, more powerful nations, watch over it and keep it safe.
Being invaded twice by Germany doesn't seem to have taught Belgium a lesson that it needs to participate in it's own defense.
Now, thanks to its disregard to its own security, Belgium has the highest per capita number of terrorists in Europe. And yet, it's internal security is weak and divided, thanks in part to the fact that Belgium is really two nationalities and two languages, French and Flemish.
Now that Belgium has had it's own 9/11, the Belgians are still playing possum, refusing to share information with American counter-terrorist agencies.
Unfortunately, letting Belgium ignore its problems won't do. Belgium also has the highest per capita European recruits joining ISIS. The country is literally exporting terrorism, while also importing terrorism.
