Time to ban the teaching of evolution in public schools?

Since the Republicans control both the House and the Senate, maybe it's time to pass a bill banning the teaching of evolution in public schools. Seems like no better time to do it than right now.

Any kind of religion should be a thing for home.

Yes evolution is a problem. But histoy is a bigger problem. Some kids are taught that slavery was a bad thing. Can you imagine that in this enlightened age ? History is the big problem.
Well, for starters, evolution has been used to support racism:

Social Darwinism is a social theory that emerged in the late 19th century, inspired by Charles Darwin's theory of evolution and natural selection. Proponents of this ideology argued that human societies, like biological species, are engaged in a struggle for survival, with certain races or groups deemed more "fit" to succeed than others. This belief system often supported racist ideologies, suggesting that the dominance of European powers over African and Asian peoples was a natural outcome of their perceived superiority. Social Darwinists portrayed non-European races as less evolved, reinforcing harmful stereotypes and justifying practices such as slavery and imperialism. Although Darwin himself rejected these applications of his theory, the views associated with Social Darwinism resonated with prevailing racist attitudes of the time. Beyond racial considerations, Social Darwinism also categorized individuals based on socioeconomic status, contending that the wealthy were inherently more capable of survival than the poor. While Social Darwinism has largely fallen out of favor as a coherent ideology, elements of its legacy can still be seen in contemporary discussions around genetic factors and societal inequalities.

So has The Bible.

You really don't want to pull on that thread.
Oh please. There is much content in the Bible which can be used to argue against racism and slavery.

To my knowledge, the theory of evolution is simply "information", so it can't be used to argue against racism and slavery.

How evolution can be used to support pro-rape, anti-feminist views:

Male chimpanzees that wage a campaign of sustained aggression against females sire more offspring than their less violent counterparts, new research finds.

In some species, sexual aggression against females is used as a mating strategy. Therefore, evolution could be used to argue in favor of rape or sexual violence.

The majority of Republicans don't believe that teaching the theory of Evolution in schools should be banned.
The real problem is that in almost all public schools the theory of Evolution is the only theory allowed to be taught to students.
There should be other competing theories about biological selection also taught in the classroom.
Such as Intelligent Design and Creationism.

I agree 100%.

My voice and the members of the society I represent have been shut out of Science classes for decades, dare I say centuries.

Why not they teach socialism is good idea, America is an evil racists country why not ban evolution too

In America, do theists or atheists generally deny evolution?

In the U.S., evolution denial is far more common among theists than atheists, though the picture is nuanced.

Do Republicans or Democrats more likely deny evolution?

In the U.S., Republicans are significantly more likely to deny evolution than Democrats, though the gap has shifted over time.

Why the Divide?
  • Religious affiliation plays a major role—Republicans are more likely to identify with conservative religious groups that interpret Genesis literally
  • Political identity increasingly influences scientific beliefs; some Republicans reject evolution not just for religious reasons, but because it's seen as a "liberal" or "government-endorsed" idea
  • Democrats, while not immune to science skepticism (e.g., GMOs, nuclear energy), tend to accept evolution more consistently

Turtles all the way down.
I heard this concept just yesterday. The earth is sitting on top of a turtle. That turtle is on top of s turtle and then that turtle is on top of another turtle.

Humans love finding an origin to an origin and then finding that origin’s origin. It is a never ending cycle. The turtle example solves the problem because the answer is already answered no matter how many layers you go

There are a few stories of it's origin but I like the story supposedly from the 19th century. A lady tells a preacher that she doesn't buy his ideas on creation.

He asked her what she believed. She said she believed the Earth sat on the top of a turtle. He asked her what held the turtle up. She said another turtle........turtles all the way down.

She noted how her theory couldn't be any less valid than his as neither was provable or dissprovable.

Of course we can disprove the turtle theory now but that really wasn't the point. I believe what I believe but I know I can't absolutely prove it to anyone else so I don't demand or insist anyone else believe it. I only want the same in return.

Evolution remains a THEORY, that is, an explanation of reality that cannot be observed or proven by empirical evidence. If it is going to be taught, a few hours of class time should be devoted to its shortcomings and counter-arguments.

For those with three-digit IQ's and an interest in the matter, I link an essay that pretty much disproves it.

There is no record anywhere of one species evolving into another species.
