Thumbs Down On Trump Taking the Qatar 747!

Nah. It will be closely scrutinized by our experts. It may even need additional equipment. Once it’s fully secured and operational, it might even serve as a useful tool for us in a variety of ways.

Other nations may also seek to curry favor with us (ie, with President Trump).

Besides, President Trump doesn’t need to scam America to get wealthy as Obumbler and Potato are infamous for. President Trump is doing all of this FOR America.
We'll just have to agree to disagree. Accepting a jet that will be the central command and control center for President Trump and future Presidents from a country of ill repute, shall we say, does not even pass the smell test. Trump has lots of ideas, they are not all winners and this is not a winner.

Easy; just assign it to the Minority Leader in the House and all the votes will be secured. And if it IS bugged or sabotaged? No loss.

President Trump should not take the $400 million Boeing 747 as a gift from Qatar to replace Air Force One. The primary reason has to with the character and values that a U.S. President should always exhibit. America is the greatest country on earth it has been abundantly blessed by God in a league unto itself. The President of the United States is the leader of this awesome country his actions as President should rise to the level of the stature of the country and not only be guided by principle but always give the impression that they are. Accepting a gift of this size tarnishes the integrity of President Trump it can raises the issue in reasonable people's minds that he is possibly inclined to favor the country of Qatar in Presidential decisions contrary to what principles call for. The wrongdoing here is in perception and such a perception is relevant because issues lie with Qatar where a bias could make a difference; one being the U.S. has a major air base in Qatar if a peace deal is reached in the Ukrainian War and a European Union peace keeping force is established on the armistice line and the U.S. is drafted to protect this peace keeping force sensible judgment could call for a downgrade on the resourcing of this Qatar base and an upgrade of resourcing U.S. bases closer to Ukraine, a Qatar biased President might not follow common wisdom here based on that bias! Also, a President should protect the Office of the Presidency, he or she should not establish precedents that weaken the office; accepting gifts of humongous monetary value would then justify future Presidents doing the same a President sanctioning such behavior weakens the Office of the Presidency it subjects it to be unduly influenced by such gifts. Further, good leaders try to follow the same rules that rank and file in their organization have to follow; rank and file members of the U.S. government have to follow ethics rules where there is a prohibition against receiving gifts. President Trump contrary to the spin is in reality violating this ethical rule which is not displaying the quality of leadership the American people would hope their President would display!

One thing that really doesn't make too much sense to me is the taking on this controversy really worth it to President Trump I mean from the standpoint of the following this Qatar 747 is going to have to be turned into an Air Force One (Suitable for the President) plane meaning that U.S. authorities have to take this Qatat 747 and add a missile defense system too it; harden the structure of the plane so it can fly through a nuclear radiation cloud and the occupants of the plane won't be killed or severely sickened by radiation, add sophisticated communication which a President needs and add the technology that allows the plane to be refueled in the air, this will probably take the better part of two years so President Trump will have a luxurious 747 for the last two years of his term is this short period of reward worth tarnishing your reputation for integrity over, I don't think so! Today, CNN reported that the cost to do everything that will need to be done to the Qatar 747 plane to make it an Air Force One plane will be $750 million dollars, apparently the plane needs to be completely disassembled to check for listening devices and then reassembled; if Trump takes the Qatar 747 gift and pursues the modification with this price tag it will really set him up for great ridicule because he has repeatedly bragged about how he did an outstanding job in negotiating for the new Air Force One planes from Boeing how Boeing originally quoted over $5 billion for them and how he President Trump stood his ground and wouldn't go to four billion or higher and how he prevailed with the deal ending up being $3.999 billion. People will say why didn't Trump just agree to $4.75 billion for the new Air Force One planes Boeing wouldn't have gotten a fair profit out of the deal and been incentivized to fill the order quickly and Trump would probably have new Air Force One planes right now he could fly around in instead of twelve to forty year old Boeings that are not near the same quality of plane!

Jim, he's a criminal, a convicted felon, this is what criminals do.

Very verbose OP. And wrong.

There is objectively nothing wrong with the President accepting a gift from a nation for our nation.

Yes, no corrupt individual should ever turn down a deal like this. Quid quo pro. You do something for me, I do something for you, and what Trump wouldn't do for a 400 million dollar plane.

Its a gift from a very close and valued ally. If Trump were to refuse it or throw it back in their face, they would be insulted.

I'm sure Trump will do something good with it. Maybe it'll be a new AF 1 some day or not, maybe Trump will donate it to some humanitarian cause. Whatever his decision, I'm not too worried about it.

If Joe Biden or Leggs-Up were in office and took it, there would be no media panic and the MSM would be touting it as a true sign of Biden's greatness and respect he has earned.

Do you believe Congress will vote to allow the gift? The only way this gift is constitutional is for Congress to agree, in a vote....

Have you ever swore to uphold the constitution?

It's nobody's business if he accepts a gift or not.
America is the greatest country on earth
BULL SHIT!
it has been abundantly blessed by God in a league unto itself.
BULL SHIT again! Anyway, it was God who decided he should accept the present from Qutar so stop blaspheming the Lord and trying to contradict His gift-endorsed present to the President of the United States of Amerca! You are doing the work of the devil!👹

Presidents must follow federal laws and regulations regarding gifts, which restrict accepting personal gifts from foreign officials without Congressional consent. Gifts from the public can generally be accepted, but many are cataloged and may become property of the National Archives if not kept by the president.
I'm sure that Trump will do the same. He did so previously as POTUS 45 why not as POTUS 47.
The 747 gift would be turned over to the USAF and be used appropriately thereafter... Thanks to the Crown Prince.of Saudi Arabia.
As you must already know Air Force one is a specially built plane and it contains special equipment more than like not installed ib the gift from the Crowned Prince.
BTW all Joey B. got from the Crowned Prince was his "Rapture" (fart)

We do disagree. A gift is a gesture. It could be accepted graciously, carefully evaluated and checked and then serve as a. Kind of international warm fuzzy for our benefit.

We don’t have to like the Saudi internal behavior. But it is not our main business. Perhaps, though, with better a relationship with them, maybe we can have some influence on modifying their behaviors

Absurd. He isn’t getting the gift. America is.

And for all your suspicions about some theoretical quid pro quo, you have zero facts.
And your hunches are influenced by your general attitude toward President Trump. You aren’t especially credible, therefore.

Do you believe Congress will vote to allow the gift? The only way this gift is constitutional is for Congress to agree, in a vote....

According to whom? What’s your basis?

Why would Congress get a say about accepting a gift for America?
Have you ever swore to uphold the constitution?
Yes I have. And I did my best to don just that.

A silly question of no significance to this discussion.

Be honest. Would you say the same thing if a Demorat accepted a 400 million dollar jet from a country that the government says supports terrorism?
First of all Trump isn't accepting anything the department of defense is. You're too hooked on the narrative see what's really going on.

DUH, BECAUSE THE CONSTITUTION SAYS SO....silly one!

Poor baby! Here are the facts:

Trump faced lawsuits in his first term based on the foreign emoluments clause, but they were all dismissed on procedural grounds. Experts say lawsuits this time around could face similar obstacles. :auiqs.jpg:

Big misunderstanding. It was the Obama administration who asked Qatar to set up an office for Hamas

Hit that fake news or disagree button all you want friend those are the facts..

Qatar is an outstanding country. Just look at their economy look at how beautiful its capital Doha looks. They have the greatest airport in the world.

Now contrast that with the filth we still have in many big left-wing cities in America. People taking a shit in the streets of San Francisco. Men dressing like women getting naked in front of kids. Trump can help fight this… not sure if he can solve that issue. It’s the identity crisis of the west.

And no nobody is saying women have to go back to the kitchen or we need to send everyone to church. Left-wingers lie all the time of about these topics.

Qatar has its problems just like many of the modern day rich countries. Like Singapore or the USA or Japan for example.

Qatar emerging as an independent country in the 20th century has been one of the success stories. Like Singapore. Compare that to many of the countries in South Asia , Africa or South America that gained independence to the 20th century and that are either extremely priced or still going through a struggle.

Like with Saudi Arabia, there are now females in these countries in the most powerful positions. Doctors, lawyers, professional of all stripes…. Some people simply are unaware of this. These countries have embraced modern values and look at what it has got them. They have some of the most beautiful architecture in the world. Look at all the garbage statues we have going up in America. Like that abomination in Times Square.

I do have hope for America. I think we are in the midst of defeating the radical left-wing. It’s gonna take some more time, but there has been some positive signs.

Jim, he's a criminal, a convicted felon, this is what criminals do.
I'm trying to think of a world figure who was as absolutely, globally untouchable as this person.

I can't come up with anyone.

Will this benefit America? Very possible. But let's not pretend that America is exceptional in a good way.
