Prosecutors focus on Trump declassification claims in Kash Patel testimony: report

Federal prosecutors questioned former Trump aide Kash Patel on Thursday about his previous claims that former President Trump had declassified documents recovered from Mar-a-Lago, The Washington Post reported.

Patel appeared for the second time in a month before a federal grand jury investigating Trump’s handling of classified documents after the Department of Justice agreed on Wednesday to grant him immunity for any information he provided.

The former Trump aide was also asked about how and why the former president took classified records with him to Mar-a-Lago, according to the Post.

Patel previously said in media interviews that he had witnessed Trump issue declassification orders near the end of his presidency, particularly on the FBI’s investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

Patel’s grand jury appearance was his second in less than a month. At his first appearance in October, he asserted his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination, according to people familiar with the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the situation. Prosecutors argued he was not in legal jeopardy and therefore could not take the Fifth, but a federal judge disagreed with the government.
Prosecutors ultimately decided to grant Patel limited-use immunity, the people familiar with the matter said, meaning he could not be charged for a crime based on what he said in the grand jury, as long as he didn’t lie.

The problem for Kash (beyond his taking the 5th to protect himself from self incrimination, not a good look for the head of the FBI) is Jack Smith's indictment of Dotard and his co-defendants state trump in fact did not declassify the docs he stole.

Paradoxically, if Kash was telling the truth..........which he isn't.........it would mean trump declassified highly sensitive docs so he could........what........show them off to guests at MAL? Nah, he'd never do that.

Got any sources? according to people familiar with the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the situation and the people familiar with the matter said don't get it. Why didn't you just quote "your neighbor who has a friend that knows somebody that read an article told you." LMAO, try again.

Fine, but anonymous sources and idle conjecture has worked out perfectly well for the Left ever since they said Trump was a Russian asset.

I mean, Kamala's in the White House, Congress is under full Dem hegemony, and they even have a majority on the Supreme Court.

Yessiree bob.

Things are just going swimmingly for them ever since they shifted to this "people familiar with the conversation" claptrap.

Brilliant.

I always knew he would be problematic simply because he is the one Trump appointed to be his archivist about the same time they raised the joint.

It is a legitimate argument that Trump implicitly declassified the document by removing them. NOBODY has suggested any nefarious purpose or any harm done. The whole case is bullshit.

The Dems have no legitimate reason not to confirm Patel so they revert to the "shiny object" strategy. It's meaningless but shiny.

It’s a stupid argument you can make here. Not one that would pass a court of law or the Senate

trump's declassification argument was horseshit from the get go. The theft of the documents was clearly a national security matter which called for their return. An attempt to do so was resisted illegally. Nothing In Kash Patel's background suggests he is qualified to lead the FBI. Quite to the contrary.

The only documents that were possessed illegally and stored insecurely were the ones in Biden's garage and the PA library. And before you whine, "he gave them back when he was asked" It is irrelevant. The law had been broken.
