We have made Iran a boogeyman since at least 1979. But our government has terrorized that region for decades in order to control the oil. We should advocate for our government to stay out of Iran and let Netanyahu fend for himself. He is evil and he starts fights with others because he knows we'll blindly support them. It is time that stopped.

The US has toppled an Iranian government before. Here’s what happened

Since Israel began its concerted attack on Iran, calls for regime change have grown louder, with US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu raising the possibility of targeting Tehran’s all-powerful leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Many Iranians have firsthand experience with the United States enforcing a regime change in their country.

Here’s what happened:

Oil fields: In 1953, the US helped stage a coup to overthrow Iran’s democratically elected prime minister Mohammad Mossadegh.

He had pledged to nationalize the country’s oil fields – a move the US and Great Britain saw as a serious blow, given their dependence on oil from the Middle East.

Height of the Cold War: The move to nationalize was seen as popular in Iran and a victory for the then-USSR.

Strengthen Shah rule: The coup’s goal was to support Iran’s monarch, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, to rule as Shah of Iran, and appoint a new prime minister, Gen. Fazlollah Zahedi.

The coup: Before the coup, the CIA, along with the British Secret Intelligence Service (SIS), helped foment anti-Mossadegh fervor using propaganda. In 1953, the CIA and SIS helped pull pro-Shah forces together and organized large protests against Mossadegh, which were soon joined by the army.

US cash: To provide Zahedi, the country’s new prime minister, with some stability, the CIA covertly made $5,000,000 available within two days of him taking power, documents showed.

When some here use the excuse that it was in the past as if the past doesn't affect us now, learn that we are the result of the past. As a nation and as individuals. We were created due to the sex that was had in the past by our parents. This is the simplest way to help people understand that the past does have an impact on today. Iran dislikes us because we overthrew a government there. We would not stand for a foreign nation overthrowing our elected leaders. So why should Iran?

This is why we should leave Iran alone.

The 1953 military coup take over was to prevent nationalization of the Iranian oil fields.

The current illegal economic sanctions on Iran are to prevent Iranian oil sales, so Texas oil is more expensive.

That's it? Something from 72 years ago? Not to mention that it was nationalized in 1973 again, and has been so ever since.

The current sanctions on Iran are because it's a bad actor, nothing to do with oil. Iran only produces 4% of the world's oil, which they manage to successfully export to China regardless of the sanctions imposed in 2018. Which is why China has a vested stake, not the US.

How have we 'controlled the oil'?
This was written over thirty years ago and it is still relevant if you want to understand the history of our interventionism in the ME.

After 70 years of broken Western promises regarding Arab independence, it should not be surprising that the West is viewed with suspicion and hostility by the populations (as opposed to some of the political regimes) of the Middle East.[3] The United States, as the heir to British imperialism in the region, has been a frequent object of suspicion. Since the end of World War II, the United States, like the European colonial powers before it, has been unable to resist becoming entangled in the region’s political conflicts. Driven by a desire to keep the vast oil reserves in hands friendly to the United States, a wish to keep out potential rivals (such as the Soviet Union), opposition to neutrality in the cold war, and domestic political considerations, the United States has compiled a record of tragedy in the Middle East. The most recent part of that record, which includes U.S. alliances with Iraq to counter Iran and then with Iran and Syria to counter Iraq, illustrates a theme that has been played in Washington for the last 45 years.

Full analysis here.

"Background: Oil

If the chief natural resource of the Middle East were bananas, the region would not have attracted the attention of U.S. policymakers as it has for decades. Americans became interested in the oil riches of the region in the 1920s, and two U.S. companies, Standard Oil of California and Texaco, won the first concession to explore for oil in Saudi Arabia in the 1930s. They discovered oil there in 1938, just after Standard Oil of California found it in Bahrain. The same year Gulf Oil (along with its British partner Anglo-Persian Oil) found oil in Kuwait. During and after World War II, the region became a primary object of U.S. foreign policy. It was then that policymakers realized that the Middle East was "a stupendous source of strategic power, and one of the greatest material prizes in world history."[4]Subsequently, as a result of cooperation between the U.S. government and several American oil companies, the United States replaced Great Britain as the chief Western power in the region."

It's easy for an American to say that the Zionist regime should win their own war, when it's not America that is being destroyed by Iran's missiles.

The left has moved on from worshipping illegal gang bangers, rapists, and murderers to worshipping the biggest terrorist state in the world.

Weird.

To be honest I'd rather nuke Iran......but after getting to know some of their people while in Farci school.....I can't blame the civilian population for the sins of their leaders.

That's like punishing all of the voters for what congress is doing.

An excellent telling of the truth. The CIA Agent most directly involved the overthrow of Mossadegh was Kermit Roosevelt, Jr. Mossadegh spent time in prison and was later exiled. It was that single act by the British and American Governments that lead to Islamic Republic of Iran. Our county fucked that country over and they no reason to trust us.

No need to. Israeli conventional weapons are doing just fine.

The people overthrown were secular as well. You can't know that the Islamists wouldn't have tried to overturn that government either.

Has everyone forgotten that a retired four-star general openly admitted years ago "We are going to take out 7 countries in 5 years" including Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Iran? As I've stated on this site many times, war with Iran was ALWAYS their plan... And not for the BS pretext we've been given. Clark is not the only one in government who has publicly let out that they've wanted war with Iran for decades.

An example of a foolish question.

To turn Dells statement around........'One little nuke' in Irans hands will hurt far & wide.

I do agree that we should stay out of it, unless or until Iran strikes us first........but they should never be allowed to have nukes. It's like giving a pyromaniac a gallon of gas and a box of matches. It's just asking for more trouble

I Read "Operation Ajax" years ago. All Mossadegh really wanted for the people of Iran to profit from oil being pumped in Iran. The United State and Great Britain were concerned oil profits than the people they were exploiting.
