At least 12 presidents owned slaves. The supreme court ruled them legal. Abe did not wage war over slaves, he claimed it was to restore the union. But the union was in favor of slavery.

The only thing wrong with your premise is that when Jefferson took Hemmings to France, she could have left him. France didn't recognize slavery and legally she was a free woman there. She chose to stay with him. Her conduct proves that you are full of bullcrap as usual.

My hunch is that Sally was a rare black beauty and was eager to be in Jefferson's arms, or in his bed having sex.

The issue that Carlson raises is one that few public figures acknowledge: While slavery was the wedge that divided the USA and the CSA, the individual soldiers - both sides - were not fighting to preserve slavery or to end it. The Union soldiers (including a lot of unwilling draftees) were fighting either because they had no choice or to preserve the Union, and the Confederate soldiers - only a tiny percentage of whom owned slaves - were fighting mainly for their States, and to reject the domination of the northern States.

So to assert that everything connected to the Confederacy is all about slavery and must be obliterate is ahistorical and offensive to the memory of those who fought bravely for what they considered a good cause.
