Religious freedom is very important and was very important even to the founding fathers.

You lose a lot of freedoms when you are incarcerated. You are forced to submit to humiliating procedures ensuring the safety of other prisoners and staff, you lose a lot of rights. We would have to know why they did it before casting aspersions.
