BREAKING NEWS: Bus crashes near Waupun - WKOW 27: Madison, WI Breaking News, Weather and Sports

WAUPUN (WKOW) -- Authorities in Dodge County say a tour bus carrying 20 Special Olympics athletes crashed early Tuesday morning near Waupun. Two people were seriously hurt.

The team of golfers and softball players was returning to Appleton from Nebraska.

At least two people, including the driver, suffered serious injuries, and six more suffered minor injuries. One passenger was flown to Neenah by medical helicopter because of concerns over internal injuries.

Dodge County says it appears the driver lost control and crashed into a guardrail on Highway 151 just south of Highway 49. The guardrail kept the bus from plunging down an embankment, instead, pushing it back onto the road where it tipped over.

As of 6:30 a.m., a portion of Hwy. 151 was shut down.
