There are no good police officers.

Of course there are good, honourable officers. Those in uniform who are in the job for the right reason must be supported. Your biggest concern should be not to follow the Canadian system, in which "plain clothed" officers and nepotism for their family destroys your economy, your privacy, your civil liberties while rewarding the least impressive and least courageous among you. You don't become East Germany Light overnight, it's a gradual progression, helped by over powered unions.

The SOB who lied about me having a gun while in high school is making over $150k a year working at the Toronto Police Service. It's not comical, it's insulting and disgusting. The guy is a low performer and a liar, and yet, here he is making more than Phd mathematicians in Canada while destroying lives.

What a disgrace and free fall in the global competitive economy as our citizens around the world are exposed to more danger due to our falling reputation.

Why couldnt he have done it without breaking protocol?

He did the right thing. No way that video gets released with a fight in the courts for years all while this officer stays on the street.

Citizens certainly demand quick response and support of Whistleblowers. They play a vital role, they keep everyone in check knowing that if they abuse their powers they risk their careers.

We have people charged and convicted of crimes as police officers, the court process, with appeals sometime takes years. During that time, they are fully paid, their legal fees as well, pension, benefits...5-6 years later (in one case over a decade!), they are finally let go. It's a security threat to our system and our taxpayers who fund this racket.

When people say that this is what they mean.

Here we have a Sargeant (OK, he is a good guy) blowing the whistle on police brutality and what happens? He gets was stripped of his police powers by the system.

Hopefully public pressure gets him re-instated.

That said, there are a lot of good cops out there doing very dangerous work. Yes, there needs to be a change in culture, in that cops/unions/bureaucrats need to stop protecting the bad apples.

There are good officers but the system is rotten.

Or they are like any group that wants to protect their own. The thing is, for every valid complaint against an officer, there are 10 complaints by people who want to make trouble.

Sure there are. But they don't get sent on their way with no repercussions.
