In the centuries to come, history books will likely look back on September 2016 as a major milestone for the world’s climate. At a time when atmospheric carbon dioxide is usually at its minimum, the monthly value failed to drop below 400 parts per million.

That all but ensures that 2016 will be the year that carbon dioxide officially passed the symbolic 400 ppm mark, never to return below it in our lifetimes, according to scientists.

Because carbon pollution has been increasing since the start of the Industrial Revolution and has shown no signs of abating, it was more a question of “when” rather than “if” we would cross this threshold. The inevitability doesn’t make it any less significant, though.

September is usually the month when carbon dioxide is at its lowest after a summer of plants growing and sucking it up in the northern hemisphere. As fall wears on, those plants lose their leaves, which in turn decompose, releasing the stored carbon dioxide back into the atmosphere. At Mauna Loa Observatory, the world’s marquee site for monitoring carbon dioxide, there are signs that the process has begun but levels have remained above 400 ppm.

Expect the co2 level to rise as we get into oct! I expect May of 2017 will hit 409ppm for the monthy and 411 for a daily.

Just wow... Now the dim wits think the earth can not go the other direction... what an arrogant and unsupported scientific position... Are you and liminal twins, posting up this hyperbole and BS?

I'll make a poll later this year or early next allowing you to predict what the highest monthly avg will be. ;)
The earth has seen levels above 7,000ppm.. and the earth didn't melt or burn up staying in about a 12 deg C range.. In fact, we had ice ages that lasted millions of years during that time..

You Marxist pieces of crap are so full of shit..

This will continue to accelerate as Runaway Global Warming starts to kick in. That is, the methane clathrates will start melting and put billions of tons of CH4 into the atmosphere which will be converted to CO2. The human race is soon going to face it's own mortality if it doesn't take drastic action to keep the rest of the carbon in the ground. But, as CO2 takes hundreds if not a thousand years to go through it's cycle in the atmosphere the levels will continue to rise and the atmosphere will continue warming. No matter what we do. And, ignore the deniers. They are children too afraid to face reality.

Matt post the lab work showing how much the extra 120ppm will increase temperature.

It's not like we've been asking you loons for years

Great news. Since most weather related deaths are due to cold plus the millions of acres of new farmland available, millions of lives will be saved. Time to call another meeting in the French Rivera so hundreds of climate scientists can fly private jets there to discuss.

The water cycle is a NEGATIVE FEEDBACK and has NEVER acted as a positive one. This is the main reason all modeling fails and why the earth will NEVER enter a runaway atmospheric event.... And never has even with levels as high as 7,800ppm in paleo history.

CO2 can not do what you all claim by EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE!

But don't let facts stop your lies and disinformation.

Really? How come that never happened the last time it got warmer than it is today? Is todays temps somehow magical? Anyway, since they all claimed we were doomed if it got to 400 ppm we will get to watch the complete and utter collapse of your religion as NOTHING HAPPENS!

What constantly draws me back to this forum all the time? Well.....I will admit, my whole life, I get giddy making fun of social oddballs.......since I was a kid. We all know them.........the ones who would consider walking down main street naked waving a banana at people thinking folks are going to line up behind them. The know it all's at parties that people attending to just to be socially polite but are turning their heads looking at others giving the "this goofball is making my head explode" expression ( which the oddball of course, never see's ).

Who gets all riled up about PPM shit? Social oddballs who have nothing going on in their lives and have few, if any, real life responsibilities.:laugh2:

So as long as the fruitcakes are around, I'll be around for sure publically humiliating them!!
