I think it is truly bizarre for the POTUS to use almost the identical words in his State of the Union Address from one year to the next.
This speech is a Constitutional requirement, and I would hope he could do better than Xerox the previous year's speech.
2010 State of the Union Address.
2011 State of the Union Address.
2012 State of the Union Address.
2011: "At stake is whether new jobs and industries take root in this country, or somewhere else. It's whether the hard work and industry of our people is rewarded."
2012: "An economy built to last, where hard work pays off and responsibility is rewarded."
2011: "So I say to this chamber tonight, instead of re-fighting the battles of the last two years, let's fix what needs fixing and let's move forward."
2012: "Tonight, I want to speak about how we move forward"
2010: "And we should continue the work of fixing our broken immigration system"
2011: "Now, I strongly believe that we should take on, once and for all, the issue of illegal immigration."
2012: "I believe as strongly as ever that we should take on illegal immigration."
2011: "And let's stop expelling talented, responsible young people who could be staffing our research labs or starting a new business, who could be further enriching this nation. "
2012: "But if election-year politics keeps Congress from acting on a comprehensive plan, let's at least agree to stop expelling responsible young people who want to staff our labs, start new businesses, and defend this country."
2011: "We'll put more Americans to work repairing crumbling roads and bridges."
2012: "So much of America needs to be rebuilt. We've got crumbling roads and bridges."
I don't know. Any previous President do this? I seem to remember Reagan repeatedly asking for the line-item veto.
