The media.
The best article I ever read about the media was an explanation of the bias in the media. Contrary to what many on the right believe, those in the media are not
explicitly biased but they are
implicitly biased.
What the article meant by this is that the media has become dominated by people with a formal education compared to 50 years ago when most people in newsrooms across the country did not. Thus, the values of those broadcasting changed. This wasn't ideological but values-based that was taught within the culture of those entering the media. These values skew the implicit interpretation of the world and thus the lenses through which the media reports news and issues.
This explains what has gone in Europe and the UK. The media and (highly educated) political class downplay crimes committed by immigrants, especially against white people in fear of inflaming racial tensions against the minority groups. This is not unfounded. Nationalism and racism have been behind some of the most horrific crimes. But by refusing to have an honest conversation about immigrant crime, the media has undermined its credibility and has fostered the racial tensions and social distrust it seeks to mitigate.
The biases are just getting worse. Newer younger journalists are now expressing explicit bias, believing that reporting on "social justice" issues is more important than factual reporting. Despite the implicit biases of older journalists, they really do believe that their job is to report facts first.
Because of these biases - and other reasons -what we think of the media is dramatically changing. I don't think there will be a "mainstream media" as we know it in 20 years.
In Canada, Trudeau started subsidizing the wages of the MSM to keep them alive. And who does the MSM in Canada support? Why Trudeau of course! I hope the Tories can the subsidies. If the MSM can't live on its own, they should die off.
