Republicans claim to love “free enterprise,” so why are they trying to force an independent company to carry Newsmax, their favorite source of fake news?

Because DirecTV is dropping the Republican propaganda channel Newsmax due to its constant lies and misrepresentations.

But, as you might expect, any effort to eliminate far right wing extremist lies from publication, is decried as "attacks on conservatism." And really, there is some truth in that, because so much of "conservative doctrine" rests on a foundation of lies. Embattled former president Trump took that to a new level which is embraced by the far right.

Direct TV can do as they please, but I think you will agree with me that we tax payers should demand the federal govt not give one penny to PBS TV and Radio because they are --- as you described --- filled with constant lies and misrepresentations. . Or haven't you noticed?

FALSE! What Newsmax asked, is less than what some liberal channels with lower ratings, were getting (ex. Vice Media, is a rating failure for DT, yet they're still being carried)

Direct TV is a relic of a past era. Carriers like Direct TV and cable TV are obsolete. That came about when SMART TVs were invented. A few years ago, I bought a Vizio smart TV and all my TV watching changed instantly.

In addition to all the old broadcast channels and Smartcast (which contains thousands of Youtube videos on every subject), I also can click my remote to "WATCH FREE", which has dozens of channels INCLUDING NEWSMAX).

In the Smartcast Youtube mode, there is also a search box in which you can tell the TV what you want to watch, and then watch it.

Nobody needs Direct TV to watch Newsmax.

This is a pure political move by someone at Direct TV, the ramification$ of which will surface over the near future, and it won't be good for ATT/Direct TV. APPARENTLY, money is NOT the first and last concern in this case. If it was, Newsmax, with their enormous viewership, wouldn't be leaving.

If anybody has Direct TV ,and wants to see Newsmax, dump ATT and Direct TV, and get a Vizio smart TV. Then press the "Watch Free" button on your remote, and you can watch Newsmax without paying another dime (as well as dozens of other channels)

Newmax was giving them the programming for free just to build their network. Now they are claiming to be worth more than ATT/Direct is willing to pay to keep them. You are correct in that if they could sell more ads to justify the price, they would do it. What the boohoo trumpy repeaters aren't telling you is that they aren't the only channel Direct gets for free. Democracy Now, for instance, which is far left wing, also provides their content for free. The difference is DN lives off donations and the RW fake newsers are lying when they say that Direct pays all far left channels. Newmax is simply not part of a channel bundle like Fox, NBC, ESPN, etc so they aren't going to rake in carriage fees like componants of those bundled packages.
