How is it not mob rule?“Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) on Friday called for the repeal of the 17th Amendment and the return to senators selected by state legislatures after the Senate GOP's effort to repeal and replace ObamaCare died in a late-night vote.”
Huckabee calls for repeal of 17th Amendment after healthcare failure
Such advocacy of ‘repeal’ is made in bad faith, of course – motivated by rightist partisanism given the majority of the states are controlled by Republicans.
Needless to say, if a majority of the states were controlled by Democrats, we wouldn’t hear anything from the reprehensible right about ‘repealing’ the 17th Amendment.
The POINT of the Senate was to limit the potential for mob rule from the directly elected house of representatives.
Going to direct elections for the Senate was stupid.
I don't like Huckabee, and will never forgive him for his role in getting McCain the REpublican nomination, but he has a valid point here.
Every example of the People having the vote translates to 'mob rule' with the RW'ers.

Yep, that was the whole point of the Senate, to limit democracy (mob rule). Where the men who wrote the Constitution "extreme conservatives?"

Why would you have a problem with term limits for Senators?
Would you go to a surgeon with little experience, or choose one with lots of experience? Would you to a fertilizer salesman, or an attorney for legal advice?
Huckabee is neither a surgeon, a salesman, or an attorney. Well he might be an attorney, I don't know. But he has had experience governing a state and running for President.
And he failed at both.
That doesn't mean he doesn't have any good ideas.
Yep, douche bags like him want only the fake news to be able to say anything about an election.Something must be done to end the corruption and rigging of elections that enable Senators to rig/bribe/corrupt their way into serving 40 years in the senate.
How about Citizens United v. FEC and CU v. McCutcheon go the way of Drew Scott and Plessy? And that real reform, not the fake shit the R's proposed on health care and soon on tax reform, making every dime donated to a campaign be accounted for by name of the person who donated. No money should be given to anything put before the voters without full transparency of who paid for it. No longer can money be given to a ballot measure or a candidate from "The American people who love apple pie, baseball and God"
Is it your wish to ban political speech by media corporations? The court found that differential treatment of media corporations and other corporations cannot be squared with the First Amendment.
The First Amendment prohibits Congress from fining or jailing citizens, or associations of citizens, for engaging in political speech including corporations. Also, first Amendment protections do not depend on the speaker’s “financial ability to engage in public discussion.” All speakers, including individuals, corporations, and the media, use money amassed from the economic marketplace to fund their speech.
The court found, that speakers (corporations) may have influence over or access to elected officials does not mean that those officials are corrupt and THAT'S the source of the problem right there. Elected officials having rigged their re-election for decades, seeking out corruption opportunities.
Bullshit. Using the same logic attacking Mueller and his team, the five who overruled The Congress were all conservative Republican's, and appointed by Republican Presidents. They defended their real base, corporate america at the expense of We the People.
They defended the Bill of Rights, moron, and that's why you hate them. You want government to decide who gets to speak and who doesn't.
No this poster want's his pals free speech protected, and the opposing side's free speech banned, this is why we have the 1st amendment to protect us from people like this poster.

Yes. Under democracy, the dumbest 51% of the voters determine how our country is run.How is it not mob rule?“Former Arkansas Gov. Who and what is the mob? The American people with the right to vote? lol
Why states not have Senators from the same party that controls the state legislature? Senators were originally intended to represent the states. Changing their selection to the popular vote was a deliberate move to mob rule rather than republican government.“Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) on Friday called for the repeal of the 17th Amendment and the return to senators selected by state legislatures after the Senate GOP's effort to repeal and replace ObamaCare died in a late-night vote.”

If you turn over Senate election to the legislatures, you take away the right of the people to choose their Senators,
because the voters in any given state only get to vote for one or two members of the state legislatures.

You cited his failed stint as governor, and his failed run for the presidency as examples of his experience. Those failures don't show much evidence of any good ideas you think he might have.

To repeal the 17th amendment would be a return to mob rule. State legislatures are often very partisan. The Senate was always meant to put the brakes on what the House did. It was meant to be a deliberative body.

So? They only get to vote for 2 Senators and one Congressman.

What does the Constitution have to say about it, Brown Shirt?
