It is an endemic problem of pro basketball...the players play the way they want to play and the rule-makers try to accommodate them because they don't want to impact the flow of the game.

If the refs called fouls according to the rule book it would be impossible to defend the top players without fouling them. If the refs called "traveling" by the book, half of all dunks would be disallowed.

It would probably make sense to allow challenges and replays of fouls/no fouls during the last couple minutes of games. You don't want the game decided by a call/non-call, which is what happened here. I happened to be tuned in at the time and it was definitely a blown call.

All pro sports are using replay now. They constantly stop action during games for several minutes at a time. Why not use it on game changing plays or fouls/penalties in the last two minutes of a game?

They need to be fined huge major big time in the NFL as well ,they need to lose a huge part of their salary’s,that will never happen though because they games are fixed.
