We are not haphazardly breaking down because of the very rapid rise in infection.... we just know, that hospitalizations and then deaths, are lagging indicators.... first comes cases, then comes hospitalization rise, then comes ICU Beds filled, then comes deaths...
How in the world you got hospitalizations are not rising or deaths are not rising is beyond me? It's been all over the news for a week... in the hotspot states, they are bursting at the seams in the hospitals.... all ICU beds filled and they are having to create more of them and also calling in doctors and nurses from other states by the hundreds to help.....
It's spreading like wildfire across the south, but the hottest community spread is in Florida, Texas, Arizona, California, Georgia.... primarily bigger cities in those states.....

Trump has totally screwed up the reaction to the disease and people are not going to send their kids off in the middle of this mess that Trump caused with absolutely no leadership PPE testing and tracing etc. He actually politicized it so that Republicans won't wear masks. Yes and No. Ultimately, the jury is still out because while they think that's the case, they're not 100% sure. And it still doesn't change the fact you can't rule the virus spreading with older children. Not every child who attends school is a first grader.
The point still stands. Lower the virus infection rate, take the necessary precautions and issue the relevant guidelines...and we could get back to something resembling normal..including sending kids back to school.

We're all excited where I live. We go to Stage 3 on Friday, with masks being mandated when in closed spaces. Our biggest issue right now is teaching children to wear masks, and learning to carry them with us, although most stores are giving them out at the moment.
My grandkids are having typical kid issues. The kids hate wearing them just as much as the rest of us, but they see their parents modelling wearing the masks, and understand they're now necessary. We have four babies under the age of 3 in our family at the moment, so these little ones don't understand and the almost 3 year old is having no part of it, except he wants to go with the rest of the family. Let's just say it ain't easy, but this little guy is better at wearing his mask than the President of the United States.
It's not about the teacher, it's about the kids. Young children don't learn as effectively online as in person. They don't have the concentration or discipline to sit at a computer and interact with a teacher

And the Democrats keep going to that well even though it's long dry. Deaths and hospitalizations are in fact lagging indicators, but they aren't lagging since March. They aren't four month lagging indicators. Nice try. Not really, just being nice. And the portion of increased positives that are do to expanded testing don't lag increase hospitalizations and deaths. Neither is that younger people are more and more of the positive tests and they have very low hospitalization and death rates. And also they are local flareups, they aren't across the board. I'm in Florida in a large county away from Miami. Our cases are up, but they are pretty low still compared to any of the big cities. Lumping us isn't reasonable.

Everyone wants kids back is school. The OP began with an unsupported lie and there it goes. Trump wanted to pull aid from all schools not opening 5 days a week, but that is simply impossible. But we really have no choice but to open them as much as possible, and home the new therapeutic drugs can save lives so less than a 100K die by the election. We are alone among "developed" economies, and Trump owns that.
I think employers can work with workers who have kids in school only two days a week. The Fed govt could be helping with that by giving some tax incentive to do what is the right thing, and employers generally want to do right by their workers when they can. Betsy Devolution could be using Americorp to help schools get cheap classroom help and sub teachers. Imo American voters are forgiving if they think pols have learned from mistakes and are doing the best they can given the realities. But even here is Miss, schools gave Trump a "hell no" about opening up without restriction. If you need an ICU bed for a car wreck or stroke, there are no Trauma One beds available, and what there is in the hinterlands is pretty much a luck of the draw. Of course Trump will win in Miss where face masks remain unpopular in most of the state. It will be interesting to see how that works out in schools.

So my ass is pasty white. And I'm fine. I worked at home half the time anyway even before the coronavirus because my team works across the US and India. I barely need to be in the office. I've had some problems with my youngest daughter the last couple months and could deal with that without anyone on my teams even noticing.
But the poorer you are and the less tech savy you are, the less you can just work at home and work some extra hours off hours if you need some flexibility during work hours. You're increasing the gap between the haves and have nots. And even more people who don't even have internet access

Most kids also don't do well being cooped up for extended periods of time. There's a reason why homeschooled kids join extra-curricular activities.
