Here is how you can tell. It’s akin to the crime detection maxim: follow the money. It’s looking at what they SAY they seek as an objective versus what they do to “achieve” such things. Massive disconnect.
The claim make is that the wealthy have so much more than most people that (some of) the wealth of the richer people should be redistributed to the poor. In a nutshell they claim they are seeking economic justice. But how?
It starts by villainizing the wealthy. It is easier to TAKE their material goods if they are portrayed as bad guys. So, you urge things like a sliding “progressive” income tax structure. You take more of what the wealthy earn as a percentage of income than you do from less affluent income earners. After all, they have more so they can “afford” it.
They also spend a lot of the money the government takes in on budget items for which there is no true Constitutional authority. The more they spend, the more “revenue” they demand. So they increase tax rates again and again.
Pretty soon, their unquenchable urge to spend on “social programs” (because “justice” and because “what about the children?” etc.) causes even more taxation and taxation in other forms.
The result is predictable. As disposable income goes down, purchasing goods and services goes down. Profits go down. Employment goes down. The policies of the left lead to lower economic conditions affecting the poor, first. Does this dissuade the leftists?
No. Now they seek to take political advantage of economic misery by “giving” the poorer folks more “free” stuff. It doesn’t concern them that nothing is truly free. They just go back to their well. They seek even more of the income of the more affluent. And when they can’t get blood out of a rock, they seek to seize accumulated wealth (like bank accounts and property and stocks, etc) on which taxes were already paid.
Then, when they’ve thrown enough sand into the machinery of productivity, are the poor any better off? Seriously. Are the poor better off when almost nobody can obtain material goods and services?
The obvious and correct and honest answer is “no!” So the methods of the left stand exposed. They cannot obtain by their methodology the very thing they claim to have sought: an economically better life for the poorer people in the nation. In fact, they make things worse for everybody.
But by their dishonestly premised pandering, the progressives and Democrats might attain something else: rheir actual objective all along. It’s nothing but power. Power for power’s sake.
When the people of Venezuela are starving and reduced to eating zoo animals, does Maduro eat giraffe? Hell no.
It isn’t what the progressives and Democrats SAY that reveals them. It is by their fruits that you will know them. Look at Maduro and you will get a glimpse of what they are actually all about.
