In 2018 the value of corn was $51.5 billion, with soybeans second at $39 billion. The next largest crop was hay, a distant third at $17 billion. For comparison the value of apples grown in the U.S. was about $4 billion and oranges was $2 billion.

Trump promised angry farmers another $19 billion in April and $14 billion in September—bringing his bailouts to a grand total of $61 billion. Farm Credit loans money to the entire food chain. From Tyson to Monsanto ConAgra and etc. Then tells them where and how to build processing plants. Everything on your table from corn chips to grapes and especially pork rinds was financed by Farm Credit.
They now tell Tyson or Swift or Dole where they will put processing plants. They will shut them down too. (Stupidity by bankers knows no bounds)
Those farmers who supply these processing plants are being systematically bankrupted when bankers decide to centralize them....try to get more chickens, beef, pork or peanuts through a larger plant.

And the farmer facing bankruptcy with millions in loans is now bankrupt with no contracts for feed, seed, and fertilizers. Even small farmers with small loans are getting the loans called early trying to force a bankruptcy even when they don't produce by contract. (Horses or grass beef for institutional beef products like frozen Salisbury steaks)

Tariffs are a nothing. American food processors process 60% of the world's food supply. Food is shipped into America, processed, and then shipped back out for sale.(USA has cleanest and safest facilities) Nevermind the wholesalers who put the contracts out. Trading on the stock exchange as commodities....like lumber, coffee, or sugar.

It wasn't the tariffs. It was Farm Credit moving the processing plants they supply then an "unnamed purchaser" of their farm for pennies on the dollar offering them money for their farm while they have literally millions in debt. They are there with no more contracts, millions in debt, and a buyout under a non-disclosure agreement to alleviate a third of their debt.
Farmers are facing homelessness, lost job, and no hope of future employment.

Tariffs are a red herring. USA groceries sell all over the world easily and readily. Wheat, rice, soybeans, oats, rye, and even cotton. Just because we have tariffs with China don't mean crap. We buy so little Chinese groceries it's pathetic. We can process our own garlic or other onion products.

Most Chinese agricultural products are inferior to begin with. Honey is always crap, same with everything else. There will be no love lost whatsoever. Those imports are doing more to destroy farms than support the American farmers. People got to eat. And with Ukrainian farms filled with flying bullets...China in desperate financial straights....they need us more than we need their groceries.
