As much as I respect Kamala Harris, and Dem's generally, for following the tradition of a peaceful transfer of power, yesterday left me wanting. Dotard's electoral certification had, for me, the uncomfortable feeling of acquiescence. As though he was being rewarded for the most egregious violation of the presidential oath of office in history.

Lest we forget, this happened after trump's mob attacked the Capital, and metaphorically the country, 4 years ago. Repub's having no problem with turning their backs on what had been the crowning achievement of American democracy. Respect for the will of the people.

What would the nation healing itself have looked like? Repub's sticking with their initial reaction of horror to trump's plot to end the constitutional order by impeaching him. Kevin McCarthy not trying to sabotage the 1/6 committee's congressional investigation. Main stream Repub's accepting the overwhelming evidence revealed by the investigation. The POT becoming the GOP again. trump announcing his candidacy in the 2024 election being soundly rejected as an insult to all patriotic Americans and an affront to those grounded in reality. But that didn't happen.

As a reminder of what happened 4 years ago I was hoping a small band of congressional Dem's would take the symbolic action of not voting to certify the election yesterday. Releasing a statement making it clear they were not contesting the election result but instead wanted to note the incredible bravery of Capital Police officers in the face of trump's mob. Condemn the votes of the 147 Repub's in 2021 who supported the insurrection. And reiterate unequivocally that trump is unfit to serve as prez. If for no other reason than out of respect for the half of the country who recognize it's the truth.

I still believe cooler heads will ultimately prevail.
