There are many multiple copies on other computers.
There would be copies on every server in the server chain, tap backups, copies on the receiving computer, etc.
A good investigation could easily verify what was real and if anything had been added.

The FBI had the laptop subpoenaed for another case they were woking on, and for specific reasons listed in the warrant.

They could not legally filter through the whole laptop searching for any crime.... They could only go through it looking for the specifics listed in the subpoena that were the possible crimes.

And without an additional subpoena to search the computer for another probable crime,

I doubt to this day, the FBI has gone through the whole content.

He gave it to the FBI upon a subpoena. Initially he only gave a copy to the FBI and kept the laptop, and made other copies for political purposes like giving it to the Trump campaign.... So the FBI had to get a subpoena to get the actual laptop, from him.
