I don’t know why people are going nuts over this. Seems like the color didn’t change much. If you look at pictures from post 2009 and now, seems like a dark color is the norm for the pool because it helps the pool act like a mirror for the monument reflection.

Plus, algae is attracted to light but reproduces faster in heat but that heat usually spikes at 50 or 60 degrees. I’m not sure the color of the reflecting pool is going to have that much difference in allege growth.

However, shortly after that renovation was completed, the pool again became a murky, smelly mess, filled with algae, bird waste and dead ducks.

So it appears the algae problem is an ongoing thing,
