The new Trump reflecting pool is a big hit… with algae

Avoid applying truck bed liner paint in extreme temperatures (below 55°F or above 90°F) and high humidity (above 85%). Never paint in direct sunlight or when the surface is exposed to rain, moisture, or morning dew within 24 to 48 hours of application, as this traps moisture and ruins adhesion

They didn't follow instructions.

Trump already went from $1.8 million to over $15 million.
To do the job properly may cost up to $40 million to properly prepare cement for truck bed liner paint.

Plus the special paint doesn't cure properly if exposed to sunlight, or high temperatures.
What's your point? To not try to clean up one of our most important monuments? We spend 1.7 billion every year for maintenance on empty buildings. 40 million, in comparison, for a refurbished Washington monument reflecting pool is a drop in the bucket but, I get it, 'Orange Man Bad!!'

Where did that contractor buy that paint? WalMart?
How should I know. The reflecting pool is like 350k square feet, not including the sides. Is anyone really all that surprised that there is some amount of paint failure given the size and scope of the project? I’m not.

That said given all the issues the US. Currently has the reflecting pool paint peeling should t break squelch and it certainly my doesn’t rate 27 pages of commentary

Another thing I'm wondering about is if they tested the moisture of the concrete. It's underground in a swamp. If there is no vapor barrier under that concrete the moisture content is going to be high. The vapor pressure can make it delaminate from the surface before it cures.
you can be assured theres no barrier under it and moisture is coming up,, it was built in 1923 and been a problem ever since,,

I think the only way is to dig it up and start over

Whatever Trump does they scream: 'Orange Man Bad!!!!!'

Regardless.

This pool always has had to be cleaned, sanitized, and had crap pulled out of it and skimmed it, for as long as it's been there.

The only way it could possibly avoid this, is if the water was constantly circulated by filtering pumps.

But it's pretty much a stagnated pond. And those are always breeding grounds for bugs and mold.

The Dumocreeps once again blaming Trump for something he did not do, and is out of his power, and that all other presidents have had to deal with.

This is why they don't have no-bid contracts.
On a bid basis, the company has to meet the requirements of the job. And they have to work out avoiding the pitfalls.
I'm sure a company with actual experience with this kind of supersized pool, wouldn't have f'd up.

Polyurea coatings can be used, but you have to make sure the concrete is dry. There are epoxy primers that you can use as a vapor barrier on the surface. But the concrete still have to be dry when it's applied.

Another place where delamination happens is where coats overlap. Once it dries you have to prep it again before you coat over it or it won't bond.

The paint is peeling after a couple of WEEKS.

Pool liners generally last between 6 to 12 years

These pictures are from the reflection pool......

..... In 2012. After Obama spent millions renovating the pool. Are you just evil and a hypocrite that when Obama does it and it's filled with Algae you don't even notice.... and when Trump does it, you freak out? Explain your hypocrisy?

Obama fixed the structural defects. The whole pool was sinking into the Washington marsh.
Obama drove pilings to keep the pool from sinking under it's own weight. Obama didn't promise to make it beautiful.

Trump promised to make it beautiful

Interesting. I'm curious how many companies you think have done restoration work on something as large as this reflection pool.

If the company is bad, we'll find out. But on the other hand, you do know that the company Obama had do renovation work in 2012, had tons of problems?
You can look up all the citations listed in your spare time, but the wiki lists a ton of them. From bribery, to protection payments to the taliban, to corruption charges, poor designs with bad construction, leading to a civilian bridge collapse, and bunch of other stuff.
Other than it's massive connection to USAID which as we now know was equally corrupt itself.... It's hard to take seriously complaints by people who supported all that.

Originally built during the 1920’s—without any pilings to support it—the iconic pool had sunk about a foot.

This slow sinking caused significant cracking and leaking, which required the city to provide roughly 30 million gallons of water per year—nearly 600,000 gallons per week—just to replenish the loss. The Reflecting Pool, originally built with an asphalt and tile bottom, had deteriorated over the years, causing the pool to leak 500,000 gallons of water per week.

Um... no making it 'beautiful' was a core part of the restoration. They were supposed to put in a new more reflective paint, and a filtration system, and a multi-million dollar ozone system to prevent algae from growing.

It didn't work right away.
Stop making excuses not based in fact.
