And it was hardly a "far left district". (I Grew up in that district.) Dan Lipinski (who went to the same grammar school I did) and his father, Bill, were notorious "Reagan Democrats".

The GOP at the very least could have gotten someone credible on the ballot, or failing that, worked for write-in candidate.

Indeed, given the topic of this thread, it's rather ironic. It is not difficult at all to imagine that if people who think like you were to come to sufficient power, that you might try to round up and exterminate Christians in general, and Mormons in particular, just as the genuine Nazis rounded up and exterminated Jews and others that they found undesirable.
