There has been much discussion on same sex marriage and it really does look like the SCOTUS is going to make a decision on this at last. In thinking on this, there has been a tremendous change in attitude in the country in just a couple of decades. What is truly amazing is that the change did not arise from riots, barricades, threats of violence or confrontations. It came from dressing up for gay pride parades, sit coms, female impersonator contests and people just coming out of the closet.

This really has to be the single most non-violent revolution in the history of humanity. It was so non-violent, no one even noticed it was happening. I don't know if there was a plan for this, but if so it was pure genius. At the very least, it is a testament to the power of a group who just stands up to be heard and doesn't stop talking until they are. It is awe inspiring.

However, I also think the winners in this revolution need to express a heart felt thanks to the one group which advanced their cause more than any other. The Westboro Baptist Church. No other group put forth the basic argument against SSM with such clarity and sharp relief, and made people who would otherwise have been more vocal in opposition scramble away for fear of being associated with them. Well done, WBC. In your own way, you really helped us move forward.

Gay and lesbian porn is also credited with much of society's acceptance of homosexuality.

Watching Porn Linked to Acceptance of Gay Marriage

"This likely won't go over well with folks who dislike both, but it appears a fondness for porn goes hand in, er, hand with support for gay marriage.

A new study has found that straight men who consume pornography are more likely to accept gay marriage (and not just of the girl-girl variety). Why? Because, the theory goes, porn opens the mind to accepting atypical sexual situations, reports The Washington Examiner's Paul Bedard.

The study, which is unfortunately unavailable to the lay reader, looked at recent social science data on straight men and concluded that "the more heterosexual men, especially less educated heterosexual men, watch pornography, the more supportive they become of same-sex marriage."

"Pornography adopts an individualistic, nonjudgmental stance on all kinds of nontraditional sexual behaviors," says study co-author Paul Wright of Indiana University, "and same-sex marriage attitudes are strongly linked to attitudes about same-sex sex.""

Well.... ahem. Doesn't apply to me, of course. (cough... cough) No.... errr... certainly not.

Didn't sit well with me so looking around,

Here's the study. It's available, but you'd have to register. Full-text of the abstract below.

Pornography Consumption Education and Support for Same-Sex Marriage Among Adult U.S. Males

"Many consider same-sex marriage the civil rights issue of our time. Although support is on the rise, there are some Americans who oppose same-sex marriage. Heterosexual males are a demographic group particularly likely to oppose same-sex marriage. Mass media and education are often thought of as important agents of socialization in American culture. Pornography in particular is a platform often discussed in terms of its impact on males’ sexual attitudes. This study used nationally representative three-wave longitudinal data gathered from adult U.S. males to examine the over-time interplay between pornography consumption, education, and support for same-sex marriage. Support for same-sex marriage did not prospectively predict pornography consumption, but pornography consumption did prospectively predict support for same-sex marriage. Education was also positively associated with support for same-sex marriage. Scientific and social implications of these findings are discussed."
