The metaphorical wrecking ball analogy takes a physical form.

Even if in their heart of hearts they think it looks like an idiot's idea of opulence they are committed to defending each and every thing the orange piece of shit does no matter what.

Part of White House Is Reduced to Rubble. Trump’s Ballroom Will Rise in Its Place.

The facade of the East Wing of the White House came crumbling down on Monday as construction began on President Trump’s 90,000-square-foot ballroom, a project that will transform one of the most recognizable buildings in the world and nearly double the size of the existing structure.

Having already changed so much about the way Washington works, he is increasingly changing the way Washington looks.

The East Wing was one of the last pieces of the White House complex he hadn’t yet started to make over in his own image. The Oval Office is dripping in gold and so is the Cabinet Room. The Rose Garden looks like Mar-a-Lago. There are massive flag poles in the backyard and in the front. He’s been tweaking the White House residence upstairs, too. He’s directing renovations at the Kennedy Center, and now he wants an Arc de Triomphe-style arch built on the other side of the Potomac.

It has been referred to as the "people's house." But as with everything else in the country trump is trying to rebrand it. Words can not express my disgust.

It's apparently not enough that he's tearing down the legal and ethical foundation of the country. He wants to destroy a physical manifestation of our history as well.

I think what most leftys are angry about is that its trump doing it, and his name and legacy will forever be tied to the white house because of it. If any democrat president had done this, you would have said it was a very good addition.

Thinking it matters who is paying for the degradation of what is essentially a historical monument misses the point in ways that are apparently either too far over your head to comprehend or just another head in the sand moment for a trumple.
How is it degradation? Are you suggesting the white house is never supposed to change?

I realize trump devotees are hard wired to defend everything he does but you guys don't object to this? Even after he lied?

The East Wing of the White House is fairly small and is where the first lady's office and staff are located.

"It won't interfere with the current building," the president said in July. "It won't be. It'll be near it but not touching it — and pays total respect to the existing building, which I'm the biggest fan of."

And with any luck, the new structure will reinstall the offices and staff facilities better than before.

I can't ******* believe what he did to the Oval Office. Holy crap. It looks like Liberace threw up in there.

Regardless, his destruction of the White House is about the most appropriate metaphor for his presidency that I can imagine.

Cant deny that his "gold touch" is gaudy, and likely the ballroom will need to be toned down when he leaves, but I really dont see the big fuss over this ballroom. The white house has large gatherings from time to time, and this will be a place to have them inside, and its being fully funded by various donors so its not costing the taxpayers anything.

Is this really such a bad thing?

It's a "let them eat cake" moment. A Gilded Age moment. Led by a blatant con man, making billions from his office, who's made so many think he cares about them.

In the humble opinion of some. It's not required to agree. Sorry, I shouldn't have said anything.

Eh, presidents have been adding to/redoing the White House since the beginning.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with Trump doing this

I just hope the ball room doesn’t turn out to be some overly gilded tacky shitshow like most of his private properties

I could understand this if this was being taxpayer funded, and if trump was doing this so only he could have it. By the way, have you looked at the donor list? There are some prominent leftys on that list.

While I agree that trump takes it to an extreme level, ALL politicians make money off of their office, including presidents.

I’d like to see you prove that, liar.

For once you got something right.

Should he run it by you?

Should he run it by you?
Nah he has staffers for that

But c’mon you’ve seen pics of his homes. You have to admit it would be tacky and over the top for a place like the White House

The thing about cosmetics is that they are easily changed.

Are you offended by gold?

The amount of gold Trump seems to like is tacky and undignified within the context of the White House

I dont think that’s a very outrageous opinion

With that said, I’m pretty sure its going to be relatively reigned in compared to his own style.

He has staffers to tell him that. And, giving him the benefit of the doubt, I think he
Does realize he would be a laughingstock if he golded it up to that extent

That’s your opinion….And ofcourse you don’t think it’s outrageous…

Can I take a look at the inside of your home and give you my opinion of your decor?

15th post
Seems braalian doesn’t want decor advise…
I honestly don’t even have “decor” to speak of. A few photos of family here and there and a big painting of an old-timey world map above my couch are the only decorations

Dreadful….so, the president should take interior decorating advise from you?
