Trump says 'Triumphal Arch' monument construction to begin within 2 months in DC: report

The Trump administration Friday unveiled new renderings of its proposed triumphal arch, a 250-foot structure planned to tower over a traffic circle near Arlington National Cemetery.

The memorial, dubbed “Independence Arch,” is part of President Donald Trump’s broader effort to leave a mark on the nation’s capitol and to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence this year.

It's not that I don't realize how much you guys live to troll those of us who think trump is doing permanent damage to the country. Cuz........you know........he is. But this, this can't be okay with you.......can it? A permanent structure in the capital city celebrating what triumphs exactly? A proposal for $1.5T in military spending partially paid for by cuts to the social safety net. The costs for which will be deferred to the states? A measles outbreak attributable to an unqualified quack running HHS? The abuses of ICE? The ruination of the DoJ? A litany of broken campaign promises? Near historic unpopularity?

This is unjustified self-aggrandizement on an epic scale. It's not the kind of thing a US prez has ever done. EVER. Because it's undignified, it's classless, and it's a physical display of monumental, unbridled ego. IWO, it perfectly exemplifies trump. But it has no place in America.

PS It's okay to admit you're repulsed even if I started this thread.

Then there's the Seward-Drake Memorial that has been abandoned.. By the Leftist mayors of NYC...
Since there are no memorial arches built in Washington D.C., it seems appropriate to build one at the entrance of Arlington Cemetery.
I see little if any opposition other than Democrats. It would memorialize those in our military that have given their all to America.

This could end up being pretty cool, we will have to wait until after his death to remove any inscription on the arch that has his name on it.
We should leave it up and designate it as a canvas for graffiti artists.

Don needs glasses. He thinks it says Trumphal arch. So it's been 3.5 months now. Maybe in two weeks?

One thing that leaders with large egos like to do is build large tacky monuments to themselves.

Go to a Communist or authoritarian nation and these countries have outsized monuments to their rulers and regimes.

Key Reasons for Massive Monument Building:
  • Projection of Power and Permanence: Towering facades, immense statues, and grand urban planning are designed to communicate that the regime is unwavering, unshakable, and timeless.
  • Psychological Control and Domination: By creating environments that make an individual feel small, these projects, such as those discussed in this Rethinking The Future article, condition citizens to feel subservient and reduce their sense of personal importance.
  • Cultivating a Narrative of Legitimacy: Monuments act as visual propaganda, justifying the regime's control by imposing a specific historical narrative.
  • Replacing True Achievement: Often, in cases with low institutional strength, massive buildings are used to fill the void of tangible, positive accomplishments for the citizenry, as suggested in this Marginal Revolution post.
  • Hyper-masculinity and Ego: Many monuments emphasize themes of strength, featuring muscular figures or heroic depictions of the leader himself.

This Arch d'Trump is like Trump himself, large, ugly and tacky. Nearly all democratic nations would never approve of this type of monstrosity. The problem with the Arch is not the Arch itself but its massive size.

Having said all that if the Arch goes through the proper processes and it is approved so be it.
