Liberal control of education? I taught in Florida during the Jeb Bush era. The state government was entirely Republican, and we had to deal with considerable efforts to manage accountability and testing programs that crippled the school systems. There was not a liberal to be found under NCLB when the state mandated that immigrants' kids would be fluent in English in two years, despite it normally taking much longer. They simply decreed it and held the schools accountable, even though failure was guaranteed. Their school rating system was so flawed, one of the top high schools in the nation was graded "F" because they could not make the required progress because you cannot improve over almost perfection.Obviously. And thanks to liberal control of education, the peak of the bell curve has slid to the dumb end of the scale.
Schools were performing miracles but graded as failures, so they could pass their voucher programs to pay for rich kid's private schools. Well, we all know that that turned out to be unconstitutional under the Florida state constitution and it died right after it proved itself a failure. Charter schools were going bankrupt because of corrupt administrators mismanaging funds and then returning the kids to their public schools with zero funding. I could write a book on what I learned while getting my master's degree.
