It goes without saying that any pilot will have the required training and flight time to wear the four stripes. That might be a poor example but I know where Kirk was coming from. I simply don't think that skin color should ever be a consideration for anything.
Speaking for myself, diversity is fine but diversity for its own sake is not. The best way I can put it is, if I am working in an ethnically and racially diverse workplace (I do) and that this happened naturally and organically (it did), well, so what? But if some or all were DEI hires then that tells me that not all the company's priority is hiring the best person for the job.
