Haven't had the fireplace built yet - still working on the design.. But hopefully by next Christmas.. I just want to be able to hang stockings from it.

are you designing it?

Only the physical attributes... My brother is *really* good at woodworking, so he'll be able to carve the mantle for me.. The hard stuff, professionals can do. I'm no idiot. :)

I find Hinduism much more interesting, especially the romantic emotion described through Shiva and his consorts.

I have zero knowledge.. A buddha is a red, round, fat statue that I have sitting on a speaker in the basement because it looks cool. :)

Usually Buddha is representative of each cultures ideal of beauty. They would make a handsome man sitting and using his hands to explain a point of conversation. The fat buddha shows contentment. Usually at the temple there would be three statues, the good looking statue I just described, the fat buddha showing contentment, and the Amidha Buddha represented by a female figure standing behind the two taking a step forward with one hand out. This is representative of the Great Compassion which the Buddhists represent by a female figure because it is more representative of a Mother's love than that of a male figure.
