Please tell me you aren't serious. If you are, it's the first I've heard of it and it sucks.

I'm for real.
We had a girl who was Muslim in my platoon who could wear her
head dress thingy and she NEVER had to salute the flag.
At least one Drill would yell at her for it at PT everyday.
They couldn't do a thing about it.

There is nothing in the Muslim religion against saluting the flag. This woman was just being contrary in order to be contrary.

I know nothing of her religion. She was forced to bring in JAG and they said
"you can't make her salute the flag." That was that, pissed alot of people off.

That sucks. When someone is wearing that uniform they have no religion and they have no race. If someone is Catholic and can't eat meat on Friday, that's one thing, but not saluting the flag while you're in uniform is entirely another.

It really did, No one wanted anything to do with her, the drills hated her,
Hell they hated anyone seen with her. I bet she was in for the college money.

It's probably "evolved" into that. Some basketball player stands with his back to the flag during the national anthem and sites religious beliefs as his reason. Somebody decides it's legitimate, so it eventually becomes a religous belief. Kind of like the way "seperation of church and state" has been twisted into something it was never meant to be.

I think they say it's because they can't worship another god, and
by saluting the flag (a symbol of a country founded by religion) that they would
be doing just that. Like I said...Not sure about the rules, and how they apply.

When Mahmoud Abdul Rauf did that he was doing it as a protest against how the country "abused" the black folk, not because of religious reasons.

I hope she got an MOS like, toilet-cleaner first class or something. By all the little gods, why serve if you can't believe in the symbolism of the country?
