Click on the offending person's picture. On the popup that appears, on the right side, the word "ignore" appears. Click on "ignore." It takes a few seconds, so be patient and make sure the ignore went through. Leave the thread where the offense occurred by going to another thread. When you return to the thread after being in the menu or at another thread, you will nto see the offender, you will see nothing in the headline of a fellow poster's answer to that ignored person, so you will not see what they are saying to each other, only how your fellow poster answers the ignored person.

Mean people will shorten your life if you let them, so don't you let them. But in keeping with letting stuff go, 3 days is plenty of time for you to refresh and continue other discussions after a nice 3-day-reprieve. If you however, have a heart or autoimmune condition, you may have to be certain that person who knows how to get under your nails and does so gleefully, make sure he or she stays ignored. You have another area on your profile that says "people you ignore." If you want to see what one of your friends is saying to someone you ignored, you just go to "people you ignore," click on their id picture (or blank id picture) and then click on unignore when the popup comes back up.

Seems to me that the ignore function exists just so person A can indulge in a passive aggressive attack upon person B by announcing to everybody that they are on it.

Why bother?

That's not true of everyone, Dogmaphobe. Constant ninnyhammering by creeps affects older people more than younger, which can show up in health issues. You likely are younger and are not governed by issues of old age. However, if the left side of your chest starts hurting while someone is high pressuring your stress point, you might need to leave the conversation or ignore the offender who may not see your pain. Hopefully you have plenty of strong days ahead or are simply never offended by lunatics.

People on cholesterol-lowering drugs may have stress issues under duress, westwall. Stress can lead to auto-immune issues and trouble with otherwise latent allergy problems. It doesn't hurt to take stress off yourself and give you a 3-day reprieve from the forum ninnyhammers with the ignore button. I think of it as a pleasant vacation from a dullard.

I have maybe 7 or 8 on ignore, nearly all of them are now perm banned.
My personal criteria is ignoring "totem pole posters". The idiots who make a dozen copy n paste threads a day. The place is much cleaner without them commanding 2/3 of the pages

Mac, I had people on Ignore for a year or so then took everyone off. But I eventually found that many of the Tards here have NOTHING useful to ever read or respond to. They are idiots and professional trolls who just try to bait you into pointless, circuitous arguments to at least, get under your skin, and at worst, hope to get you banned. I now have a LOT of people on Ignore. A VAST improvement to the forum not having to constantly be inundated with other people's mental illness, emotional immaturity and absolute idiocy. Some think it wimping out or want to show how "tough" they are arguing with fools, but my time is more valuable than that to waste quibbling with habitual idiots morning noon and night.

BTW, if you WANT to read this person or other ignored content in a thread, you can still uncover it temporarily. At the end of every thread there will be a comment that says: "Show ignored content." That will work for THAT thread for that one time.

Anyone can be put on Ignore except for Staff. Private Mail can also be turned off or abuse therein can be reported. I believe that stalking too can be reported.
