However, had we continued to support Ukraine along with NATO, the Russians would be in a far weaker position. And would have had incentive to settle.

And then TACO backed off on his sanctions. Giving Putin a victory.

Now, Trump will BS about the “next step” and a trilateral meeting.

Crimea was taken so easily because the Crimean people voted. It was hardly a secret that the Crimean people are ethnic Russian. They speak Russian. They go to the Russian Orthodox Church. They hate the Ukrainians and consider them oppressors.

To democrats the solution would be to have American military go into Crimea and control the vote by force. Pretty much what they want to do here.

Technically 'correct'. The biggest reason they're Russian-Speaking is that the Soviets murdered all the Ukrainians back in the day.

But the Crimean Peninsula was transferred from the Russian SFSR to the Ukrainian SSR in 1954, and it remained part of Ukraine after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. Following a 1991 referendum, Crimea gained autonomy within Ukraine, but in 1995, the Ukrainian parliament abolished the Crimean Constitution and the office of President of Crimea, granting the region less autonomy.

Not the point, Crimea was take by Force of Arms by an External Power who had no right to it, not by Revolution or by Vote. I don't care if the people there spoke Martian.... The Russians invaded in force and took control. Period.
