The Great Boatlift of 9/11 became the largest sea evacuation in history..surpassing Dunkirk in WW2.
Nearly 500,000 civlians were rescued from the Island of manhatten by boat, (the only transportation in or off the Island), taking less than 9 hours..
People believed manhatten was under attack and didn't know when the next strike would occur...It was not until the 1st tower fell people panicked...
Coast guard sent a call out for boats to help rescue as people were actually jumping into the water to get off the Island....and a fitilla arrived as never seen before.....this is their story.

One of the many stories of heroism and untold story of 9/11. When the call for help is shouted Americans rush to help...
This Boat lift certainly was a surprise to me of how extensive it was not to mention the state of peoples minds waiting at the waters edge as frightened as they were and those who came to help...
