The Great American Socialist...Reagan

Socialism has been much in the news for some months. Recently, some GOP stalwarts charged President Obama with preaching the heresy. John Boehner, the House minority leader, characterized Obama's stimulus package as, "one big down payment on a new American socialist experiment."

"Socialism" is a pejorative term in American politics and needs to be carefully examined. It usually refers to increased government control over the economy, or policies that promote the redistribution of wealth. There is no doubt that President Obama's economic measures, passed and proposed, will raise tax rates on the richest Americans to pay for increased government funding of health care, green energy and education. So the new president is indeed a redistributionist, but so was Ronald Reagan, except that Obama's plans will transfer wealth from the rich to the poor, whereas Reagan's bills transferred wealth from the poor and the middle class to the opulent. In fact, Obama's measures are puny, whereas Reagan's were massive. If the Democrat is a "small" socialist, Reagan was the Great American Socialist.

Bfg, I don't mind you posting an article bashing Ronald Reagan, however I do take issue with your plagiarizing the data from a editorial written by Ron Moore of the DC Special Interest Examiner on 03/21/09. The editorial was written using material from two books written by Dr. Ravi Batra. If I want to read an editorial by Ron Moore I can read it direct myself without you cutting and pasting various excerpts out of context.

He NOT plagiarizing.

That's a very serious charge, incidently, not a minor one..at least it is to people who think themselves scholars.

So for future reference know that

Plagerizing is laying claim to other people's work.

He VERY CLEARLY identified the author of this piece.

No harm and no foul.

Actually, if you read the TOS properly you would know that you can't post a URL until you made 15 POSTS not threads.

Get editing :)

BTW, how was it sitting out the post season last year?

I'm not denying your historical advantage but we both know it's all you got these days.

It's inaccurate to refer to Obama as a "socialist," and thereby similarly inaccurate to refer to Reagan as such, of course (Obama is a liberal democratic capitalist; Reagan was an Anglo-Saxon capitalist), but the point is well-taken. Reagan's dubious record of military Keynesianism certainly conflicted with his professed free market ideals.

I'm still not over the 1960 World Series...LOL

1960 World Series (4–3): Pittsburgh Pirates (N.L.) over New York Yankees (A.L.)

The Pirates were grossly outmatched against the Yankees, who had won their tenth pennant in twelve years. Indeed, the Bronx Bombers outscored the Pirates 55–27 in this Series, outhit them 91–60, outbatted them .338 to .256, hit ten home runs to Pittsburgh's four (three of the latter's coming in Game 7), got two complete game shutouts from Whitey Ford..................................and lost.
