Yes. The very-soon-now prediction of the End of the World is a major aspect of at least two great world religions.
But it's also 'religious' (i.e believing something with no evidence for it) to believe that we are somehow a charmed species, watched over by benevolent supernatural creatures who -- despite making life utter hell for so many of us over the millenia, and right now in parts of the world - actually also love us and won't let us destroy ourselves as a species, although they kill us off by the millions, in the most horrible ways, from time to time.
The birthrate among civilized peoples is falling. We're not replacing ourselves. For a population to replace itself, its women must have an average of 2.1 children in their lifetimes.
More than that rate, the population expands. Less, it shrinks. Simple arithmetic. Countering this, is the growth in our longevity. The longer a population lives, on average, the slower the decline. (And if we stopped dying altogether, our population would start increasing again, so long as the birthrate was above zero.)
And then there's the resources to support an expanding population, which are not infinite and put an upper limit on how many people we can have. (In the extreme case: there cannot be a mass of people greater than the mass of the earth. On the other hand, we could populate other planets and their satellites. Then substitute 'solar system' for 'the earth'.)
For those who are interested in this, and know a bit of mathematics, it's a 'logistic function'. A pretty good Wiki article on population growth can be found here: [

But right now, we're on the way down. Even Iran's women have decided to stop being baby-making-machines, and are having fewer babies than it takes to replace Iran's population.
There doesn't seem to be any solution to this.
An article on the whole problem, including attempts by various countries to reverse their decline in the birthrate, can be found here:
