The FBI Should Release the Trump-Raid Warrant

Illegally taking classified material is not a clerical error.

Some of the presidential records recovered from former president Donald Trump’s residence at Mar-a-Lago are so sensitive they may not be able to be described in forthcoming inventory reports in an unclassified way, two people familiar with the matter said Friday.

The revelation comes as Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney (D-N.Y.) sent the National Archives and Records Administration a request for further information on 15 boxes of records recovered from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort last month. The Archives set Friday as its deadline for an inventory of the contents.

The Archives has publicly confirmed earlier reporting by The Washington Post that classified materials were found within the boxes and that torn-up records had been transferred to the Archives but not reconstructed by the Trump White House.

The inventory is expected to provide more information on the volume and scope of classified documents, including details on the level of classification, according to the two people familiar with the matter, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive topic. There are records at the very highest levels of classification, including some that can be viewed by only a small number of government officials, the two people said.

It’s so super secret we won’t reveal any of it but will use it for our private prosecution.

It is amazing tbe President of the United States has not stepped forward to explain why the historic, unprecedented raid of a President's home - his former / current / future political opponent was conducted by his DOJ & FBI...

....WITHOUT HIS PRIOR KNOWLEDGE OR APPROVAL.

Not his job to talk about an on going investigation.

They should release if if there is a need to release it. Mis-placed sympathy for those under investigation is not a need.

It's not a question that it needs released given the increased division the raid is causing. Anyone who is not in favor of it being made public is doing so for purely partisan reasons.

It isn't like he did have and know the information, this is all about if he has a few papers he maybe shouldn't. It should have been handled by lawyers, not turned into some media circus. Trump had the power to declassify the information anyway, so that silliness of unauthorized possession doesn't fly.

He wasn't illegally transmitting or storing the information illegally like Clinton and her home brewed server. Nor did Clinton have the power to declassify the information.

This is exactly how it appears, a political witch hunt. Democrats will reap what they sowed on this boondoggle.

The warrant would have to state what was being sought and how it would be identified. All that was taken was 15 sealed boxes. The FBI did not open any boxes. This alone would completely void the warrant.

And you got your law degree from where?

The DoJ had to convince a federal judge there was reason to believe evidence of Trump having committed a crime was present at Mar-a-Lago. So, yes, they had probable cause to do the search.
This is looking like some hearsay about “someone said to took top secret papers” and they went with yet another very flimsy reed

Trump's theft of classified documents is not in dispute...........unless you live in Trumpworld.

The National Archives made several attempts to get Trump to return the documents. So your whole "should have been handled by lawyers" gambit fails.

And the information is classified for the security of our country. Do you really want someone as stupid, untrustworthy, and corrupt as Trump to declassify our nation's secrets? This is the guy who revealed classified information to the Russians.

Trump has a copy, there's no law preventing him from releasing it.

Why doesn't he?
The question is who should release it…. The prosecution or the defense? Not that Trump can’t release it but it’s the prosecution making the charge. Love or hate Trump, there is concern over raids by law enforcement backed by specious or vague claims. The FBI or the judge needs to release it for credibility.

Link?

I can't remember a President in my lifetime who hasn't revealed something seriously classified to our nation's foes by accident.

Clinton killed the only collection we had on OBL at the time by talking about it on national tv.

If the warrant makes mention of January 6, Trump will never release the warrant to the public.

This will all come out eventually.

Actually I do want Trump or someone like him to declassify damn near everything our government is doing. Secrecy and democratic ideals do not go hand in hand. An honest government is a frightened government. Time for them to remember who it they serve.
