Most of us know about Bill Maher jokingly saying he'd be a house so-called n-word if he were a slave. And of course, this sent the left throwing slings and arrows against him. But when Stephen Colbert made a joke about Thomas Jefferson raping a black slave: radio silence.

Both are allegedly insulting to blacks. What's the difference, then? A word. A solitary word. We have been conditioned to think that a word is grounds for demonizing. Yet, is it? It ought not to be, certainly. We see that it is artificial indignation at the end of the day. And we know this. We have all been around black people who use the word more than some people use the word the. We know it's bull shit.

And even messageboards like USMB have bought the kool aid and censored it. In fact, Matthew used to pretend to be a racist conservative and use it all day long on here. He won't account for his phoniness. But he understands the end game of demonizing based on a word.

It's a word. Apparently we aren't adults.
