Not in my red state. Why on earth would people who make more money vote against their own self interest? Isn't the theory that Republicans are for the rich? It's all so confusing.

That's because the government at all levels, primarily driven by democrats have driven taxes up to the point that one income isn't enough to support a family. In California for example, taxes eat up over sixty percent of income when they are all combined. Federal, State and sometimes even City income taxes. Sales taxes as high as twelve percent between State, County and City. Social Security taxes, Medicare taxes, property taxes, special assessment taxes. The list has become endless to feed the insatiable government maw for more and more money. In the fifties and sixties there were Federal and maybe State income taxes, perhaps one percent sales taxes in some places and low property taxes. Tota; tax burden was less than ten percent of income.

The difference between Republicans and Democrats. No party is ideal, but the differences have become stark.

Inclusion vs. exclusion. The Democrats have have become so inclusive they no longer have a coherent message. Republicans have systematically broadened their definition of who is “other” to be excluded and defined as the Enemy.

Bridges vs Walls. Democrats seek to build bridges to include…alliances, education, greater understanding of the “other”. Republicans build walls to exclude. Exclude those think differently, worship differently, marry differently or have a different ideal of what America is.

Projection. Man…this is a big one and I as far as I remember this was not always the default behavior of Republicans but it sure is now. The OP is a case in point. What the hell happened to the old Conservative Party of “personal responsibility” and “the buck stops here”? Well, to be honest the buck does stop here…in someone’s pocket. The Republicans have turned into the biggest bunch of whining aggrieved snowflakes while still trying to maintain the pretense that the Dems are whining snowflakes. I miss the integrity of the old style Republicans…there seems to be no bar too low for today’s Republicans.

Biggest difference though…I don’t what word would be right but it is this. Republicans need an enemy to unite around and gin up anger, grievance, outrage and action. The messaging coming out of today’s Republicans nothing but that.

That claim isn’t entirely accurate. According to Pew the two parties aren’t that significantly different in terms of wealthiest with 53% vs 46%. The divide is much bigger at the bottom. In terms of tbe uber rich? Silicon Valley’s wealthy elite have gravitated to the Republicans.

With the Republicans gutting all kinds of programs designed to help poor families get out of poverty, end child labor and safe working conditions…who’s really supporting two classes?

Bullcrap. Blacks have benefited from it; it has limited access for Whites to universities and well-paying jobs (especially government and postal jobs). Affirmative Action is illegal under the Civil Rights Act which does not allow racial, religious or nationality preferences.
